1992-93?

Do you know that or are you guessing? I want to put them on the 'old shirt' site so I need to know for sure.

Tony Burke and Tim Street both signed for Leigh for the 1992-93 season but I can't say I'm 100% certain that's when this pic was taken.

I think that was the away shirt in 70/71. In the 50s/60s/70s it was common for home clubs to change so not to clash with the visitors.

This shirt was used in 1993/94 when Leigh were relegated from Division One.
The same design was used the following season with Asda replacing Lifting Gear Hire as main sponsor and Stag becoming the kit manufacturer in place of Bukta.

Disagree Mark, wasn't the 93/94 kit the Ellgren kit sponsored also by Lifting Gear Hire?

Top one is 93/94, we were still made by Ellgren in 92/93



Interested in the bottom one though as I've got a framed team photo in the same kit with a "Challenge Cup Winners" caption so obviously post 71, though the photo was taken at HP so not neccesarily the change strip explanation

See my post above - Ellgren was 92/93; Mark's Asda sponsorship explanation makes sense to me for 94/95, with the Stag/Asda RL centenary shirt for the 95/96 season.

I've got the same team photo Matt and I have some newspaper cuttings of the same - I'll just have to go through them all. I'm sure this strip was used in the run up to the cup - I'll have a look in my books tomorrow!

Ellgren made Leigh's kit for the 1992/93 season which was sponsored by Lifting Gear Hire. This was the season Steve Simms took over as coach and John Pendlebury was captain.
Interestingly the kit had black shorts, a short-lived trend as it turned out.
The away one that year was the same design but in blue.
