Keep your hands off the 1998 home shirt though as surprisingly enough the one I had as a 12 year old doesn't fit me any more.'"
God I feel old!

I'm surprised it still doesn't fit you Matt.

Is there anyone able to satisfy my curiosity as to why both Leigh and the club up the road have cherry and white hoops as their colours while the club to the west,St Helens, have red and white colours ; the club to the east,Salford, have red and white colours and Oldham the same, while the 2 clubs in Cheshire have gone black and white and primrose and blue ?
The favouring of basically red and white does seem to lack originality.

| Goes back to days long gone in the 19th century.
Leigh was a thriving manafacturing town with Engineering Industry' Cotton and Coal was King and we built tractors exported all over the world.
We had a thriving town with a brilliant RL team and a populace with lots of cash to throw around.
In an effort to spread professional RL to surrounding towns (we were one of the founding clubs in the RFL and amongst the first to pay players don't forget) we loaned out kits to other towns in our colours ie Cherry and white.
Teams in Oldham St Helens and Salford tweaked the colours a bit as a matter of pride and there was another team in another town who borrowed kit and never returned it and had no money so could not afford to pay for or return the '"loaned kit" never mind tweak our colours.
Pastry mines were discovered in that particular town around the time of the General strike in the later 1920's and suddenly they produced a team that got to the first Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.
The Wall St crash around that time brought about the economic depression of the 1930's then came the second world war.
Jobs disappeared in manafacturing industry in the 1930's in most towns' but' Leigh was badly hit and never really recovered whereas the pastry industry flourished not surprisingly contributing to an increase in obesity in our country as The town who had the pastry mines sent their products to all parts of the UK.
The rest like the rest is history.

| Because they are basic colours easy to manufacture etc.. I think you will find that most clubs either adopted an 'easy' kit or to match their town crest colours.
