In my time (1964 - present) John Woods, local talent, he had it all speed quickness of thought good hands great rugby brain great defensively too and a fantastic goalkicker, if he had taken the game seriously he would have been a RL great.
Des Drummond, not a natural RL player but boy did he learn fast and elusive, slight of stature but very very quick, his martial arts training helped him in his defence.
Alex Murphy the best ever RL player he had everything.
In recent times Neil Turley his record speaks for itself, Tommy Martyn well past his prime when he came to us but what a player.

John Woods when I was a kid, then Tim Street, Neil Turley, Micky Higham and Adam Bristow have been favourites of mine.
I'm too young to have seen him, but i'd say Alex Murphy & Des Drummond (i was in a pram at Whitehaven in 82) would be close to the top of peoples lists too. |

Only two need mentioning
Murph , widely accepted as one of if not THE greatest RL player ever , tactical genius and inspirational coach
John Woods , for 2/3 years in the mid 80 s he was the best stand off on the planet and probably the best RL player as well
We have indeed been ' blessed ' to have these legends of the game at our club
Several others were great players , but these two stand above everybody else

From my 'era' its Neil Turley. Other great players in my time were Tommy Martyn, Mickey Higham, Chris Hill and Julian O'Neill was a class player despite his problems off the pitch. Not many Leigh players have won 2 NRL Grand Finals and the challenge cup as well as playing State of Origin for years.
