I thought I heard IM and Sean Long on the radio the other week saying how Sean wouldn't/ shouldn't be looking to come to Leigh - he is looking to another SuperLeague club.

I think the professinal rugby league community socialises at more than you might think, so I don't read much into this.

That said, i guess you can see that players coming to the end of thier careers in SL would find Leigh an attractive option at the moment (money problems aside).

2015 - major missed opportunity, 2016 - stronger teams = harder task (no problem there then), 2017 - OMG What now!!!:953.jpg

Well we could always follow the Widnes blueprint (without the loaded backer of course). Tick the box at the first opportunity and be a non-descript/average Championship team for the next couple of years

edit: However we would probably have to fiddle the attendance figures and turnover in the final year before applying

clearly i am not suggesting this, what i am suggesting is any money we have (not alot) should be directed into our youth system, rather than into a over the hill sl player looking for one last pay day

Before we are refused you mean , one ' Tick ' won't get you into SL , and neither should it , being a viable strong potential SL club will

robbie paul interview from around 2min30 is interesting..by the end of it he seems adamant he's retiring at the end of next year

Your spot on WOLRAB, its better to put the money into bringing players through the youth system, I could name a few ex Super league players that leigh have given contracts over the last few seasons, and they have been very disapointing to say the least.

Leigh have had a good season out of Jamie Ellis, it was obvious he was going to picked up by another Super League club, but I think thats the way to go for the next couple of seasons, there will surely be other players like Jamie that leigh can acquire at the end of the season from other Super league clubs.

If we follow what Fax and Widnes did with attendance and turnover we will have the same qualifying markers as Widnes have won't we, that was the point I was trying to make. ie Widnes only had one tick

Bring Scott O`Brian through (on trials at the mo)......... will have benefits long term for the club. Wouldnt say no to Long for a season TBH....... players like Ridyard an O`Brian can leard heaps from Long like Riddy and Ellis would do from RHP.

Look at the future - the more they learn now will reap great benefits in the future.

I don't really see the point of getting sean long in TBH, we aren't going anywhere for the next few years and if we do get the nod next time around, lonmg would be long gone! I would much rather see us bring a young player through (Scott O'Brian if his trial goes well) Ridyard has learnt a lot from Millward, RHP and even Watson during his time here, so why not 'hand the baton' to Ridy to bring on O'Brian after all Ridyard is one of the most consisitent half backs in this division also, with our financial problems, why take a massive risk on an over the hill injury prone has been like Long??

And about RHP has he said what he is doing next year? I know hes retiring from the playing side but is he staying in hte game as a coach? If so, would like to see him in the coaching staff at Leigh, hes a top professional who can help with his experience through coaching

I don't think for a minute that Long would fit anywhere near our wage structure.

Who knows what funds will be available come the end of the season. That will depend on who is the owner.

One thing for sure Sean Long would be a world class signing. I did ask Sean on GMR 2 weeks ago and whilst not directly saying no he did say he would staying in SL.

My guess Widnes or Salford

Fingers crossed it's Widnes!
