| After saying I was having a break from the Forum , the news that Chris Chester has been appointed as Director of Rugby with effect from tomorrow has really got my interest , Chris is a very knowledgable bloke who knows the game inside out and his appointment shows Derek has not been sat on his Derrière as a couple of posters have suggested and he still has a sharpe appetite to take the Centurions forward.
It will probably be the same with the Coacing appointment and the recruitment of players in the future , after reading both Derek and Chris Chesters statements it seems both are ready to move now and within the next few weeks start announcing new signings .
I think this will prove a couple of doubters wrong and hopefully we can get behind Derek , Chris Chester and the new Coach and show our support for the Centurions .Welcome to Leigh , Chris .

| I reckon you've made a great acquisition there.
He took Wakefield higher than man other more illustrious coaches have done.

| Liked him as a coach his teams always played attractive rugby, see hows it goes hope he doesn't end up as a scape goat, trouble is we have developed a reputation due to our owners behaviour and players don't want to come, time will tell .Good luck to the lad,we need continuity and stability

Very happy with this appointment as well.
He needs to be given the autonomy that Derek refers to though for sure.
Where have you read/heard he was offered other options within the club ?

I expect that Mr Haggerty will be retained as the coach for next season.

So do I with this appointment. Kurt may develop into a great young coach and has Chris as his boss to mentor him - worst case is he doesnt develop and Chris takes over.
I feel if we had supported Jukes with a suitable mentor in 17 then we would still be in SL

Very smart logic Harry , this appointment of Chris Chester as Head of Rugby , covers the vacancy left by Carvell, and also gives Kurt H the shoulder to lean on for advice , and leaves Derek not having to appoint a new man .

not sure that can work can only be 1 boss and one man picking the team,
Its another important year and an experienced coach is required keep Heggarty in his original post if we must

I'm just reading between the lines.
rlhttps://www.leighjournal.co.uk/news/19610967.leigh-centurions-appoint-chris-chester-head-rugby/?ref
Quote: Vancouver Leyther ""Having had lengthy discussions with Chris about various aspects I am fully confident that I can give him full autonomy to make the right decisions over the whole rugby department from coaches and backroom staff to the recruitment of players and to deal with all matters rugby related.'"
Also..
Quote: Vancouver Leyther ""which is why he has taken this position outside of the coaching opportunities he has been offered.'"
The latter quote of course can be interpreted in a couple of ways.
Its not unknown that the original plan was to have a NRL coach in place who could mentor Kurt Haggerty. Of which fell through.
The club is then linked with another NRL coach albeit an assistant.
After listening to his recent podcast I would say he's happy to retire to the Gold coast.
rlhttps://www.2gb.com/podcast/john-cartwright-preparation-has-been-perfect/rl
So you would say the plan was to have a new head coach. Not a head of Rugby. This of course still leaves the door open for a head coach of which those decisions have now been placed in the hands of Chris Chester.
Haggerty may not be an option as head coach now. Possibly another role who knows. CC not taking the head coach role has completely changed the plan of action.

To be fair I doubt the likes of Cunningham would have been given such free reins as has now been bestowed upon Chester.

We did, Cunningham was brought in, was it June/July 17 and that didn't work, I can see you said " A suitable mentor" but in this appointment of Mr Chester it seems like an echo of what Mr Beaumont was saying about Cunningham's joining the club, I hope that is the only resemblance Mr Chester will have with Cunningham.

October was when we needed to support Jukes with a mentor - we won promotion with Cooke and Purtill assisting then Cooke left, leaving a huge hole for an inexperienced coach. An owd NRL coach for a season and we would have stopped up imo - KC after getting sacked at Saints was not a good move

You still have the saviour of the club left. Which you have constantly instilled in everyone. Yet even you now condone his actions. Some would say you are a bloody hypocrite.
I would agree you are.
