Who remembers a stormy night in November at Hilton Park? The hailstones were stinging frozen faces and lightning was lighting up the stormy sky. Leigh had played 11 and lost 11. We were playing Saints, top of the league having played 11 and won 11. We had just signed a new coach and this was his 1st game in charge - Steve Simms. Against all odds we won and we kept on winning, mostly.

What I'm saying is, it can be done. The right coach can forge a set of players into a team with a team spirit that is hard to beat. We aren't a team. We are a set of journeymen with no confidence going nowhere.

It took 75 minutes before a Leigh player finally got to tackle Riddy. Leigh allowed him all the time he wanted to stroll around the park, picking his passes and kicks. The tries he scored were gifts provided by a Leigh team that is defensively a shambles.
