Just had to watch back those 2 efforts from yesterday to understand how AJ stopped Fev from scoring 2 certain tries. They are spectacular efforts from Higson!

Tackle 1

Winger got the ball in space just over half way, Higson is turning around and way behind.



At the 40 yard line AJ isn't even in the shot, the only person even close to the winger is Gaz Hock coming back on from the sin bin!



30 yard line, AJ is gaining ground quick but winger is still 6 yards ahead of him!



20 yard line, getting closer...



10 yard line, just about reached him!



2 yards out, drags him into touch!



What an incredible effort!! He made up some serious ground from a standing start to chase him down and then force him into touch with the line begging. Best tackle I have seen all season! I would be tempted to say their winger wasn't very quick but Lee Smith is no slouch and gets nowhere near him!

The second tackle where he took man and ball when left completely isolated with a 3 on 1 over lap was equally impressive.

Definitely saved what looked like 2 certain tries and IMO saved that match for us. After giving him some stick recently about some dodgy defence (Bradford away!) I think he deserves a lot of credit for those 2 efforts yesterday.

Agreed two top try saving tackles, my MOM yesterday

AJ has been hearalded as one of our fastest players but people always debate whether he is an out and out winger.

He has always tackled well above his weight, what I feel can let him down is always what sometimes saves tries, in that he really reads the game well, coming in from the wing to make tackles if we are short obviously in doing that it leaves us exposed if the opposition has quick hands and the necessary speed to make the gap.

Something else that needs to be said is that AJ himself seems to have found some much needed control to his aggression, some of our team may be the ones with the reputation but AJ was always a bit "handy" too and this has toned down recently too.

Great efforts by Higson and deserve plenty of credit. The context is worth remembering, mind...Liam Blockley is a back-rower-turned centre from our reserves and was only pressed into duty yesterday because we only had one fit winger on the books. And John Davies is a second row or prop who was forced into playing stand off when Will Milner (who would be our third choice stand off behind Briggs and Craven) went off injured. If Scott Turner or Briggs/Craven have the ball on those two occasions, then there's every chance there would have been a different outcome.

Fair play to Leigh, though, they won and get the bragging rights, but plenty of encouragement for Fev in the circumstances too.

Didn't AJ defuse a dangerous 'bomb' in that late spell of Fev pressure, too? As someone else who has criticised the lad, I reckon he had a tremendous game in defence yesterday and that first try-saving tackle was incredible. The guy he was chasing may be a forward, but none of our other players got near him!

Well the click to enlarge, wasn't what I was expecting.

Got my motm for you guys, and it was because of those 2 incidents! The chase on Blockley was fantastic - had it been our winger he might not have got him! But that tackle of Davies was brilliant, had it got ir wrong we had a walk in try, fantastic tackle he had a great game for you guys.

Let's see if he can pull of those try savers on Carney or Vidot when we come and see you in August. Looking forward to it.

Was fantastic today. He's always been able to put in the big defensive hits but his determination today to get back & defend was outstanding. Do think sometimes the last few years we've lacked a bit of that sheer determination to keep teams out.

Great tackles by Higson but im more worried as to how come we are letting teams get 3 man overlaps
