Leigh Centurions Chairman Michael Norris has revealed plans for a new off-field structure for the Club as they look to build on the successes of 2014.

The Centurions were League Leaders and Grand Final winners in the Kingstone Press Championship and were also recognised for their structure off the field by winning Club of the Year at the Championship awards dinner.

Mr Norris said: “Despite winning Club of the Year, at Leigh Centurions we are aware that we need to continue to evolve our off-field operations in order to maintain our drive for Super League. To this end I am implementing a number of changes to our structures.

“Firstly, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dan Carty, 48, a Leigh lad born and bred, who joins the Centurions as Commercial Director. Dan will be charged with the generation of all revenues including ticket sales, sponsorships, corporate activity and the retail arm of the Club.

“Dan comes to the post with over 20 years of Sales and Marketing experience on several platforms including Property, Media, Publishing and Digital Media. He is well placed to maximise the Club’s revenue generation at a time when the Club sits right at the heart of its community.”

Dan Carty said: “I am over the moon and bursting with pride about my new role with the Centurions and am under no illusion about the challenges which lie ahead. I am very much looking forward to driving the Commercial department through the next phase of the Club’s development. I am a Leigh lad and I fully understand what Rugby League and this Club means to the passionately sporting people of Leigh.”

Mr Norris continued: “In order to assist Dan and all our colleagues in their roles I am putting in place a new operating structure to enable us to make quick decisions and implement them effectively.

“As our new Commercial Director, Dan will be part of a Board comprising myself (Chairman and Finance Director), Steve Openshaw (Acting Chief Executive Officer) and Derek Beaumont (Head of Rugby) whilst Michael Latham (Media and Communications Director) and Allan Rowley (Operations Director), both of whom have many years’ experience of Rugby League at all levels, will continue with the great work they have started.”

“I believe this new structure will allow us to compete at the highest level with clubs that have a much bigger support team than Leigh Centurions, whilst also keeping our cost base to a minimum.

“I wish to place on record my personal thanks and gratitude to those other members of the former Board of Management and I am confident they will continue to support the Club in many ways.

“Neil Wilcock has ended up giving more of his time to the cause than was originally expected and I am delighted to know that he will be there as a Fan, Sponsor and sounding board for next season and beyond, whilst Trevor Barton will continue to lead his Foundation which does great work in our Local Area.

“Alan Platt and Jackie Mottershead have been stalwarts of the club and brought great stability to the set up at a time when calm heads were needed. I will be forever grateful to them for this and look forward to seeing them running the Touchdown Club again next season.

“In recognition of his fine service to the Club Alan Platt has been made a Life Member and I am delighted to say that he has accepted this great honour with his customary grace and modesty.”

Yours in sport,
Michael Norris, Chairman

Me as well. That's pretty much all of the "new blood" got rid of now.

"new blood" ?

Pretty much all of the newly evolved BoM is "new blood". There is only Derek Beaumont who has previously represented the Board before, and there can be no coincidence that the successes of his previous tenure on the board are being replicated now. I do know the amount of money that Derek personally, and the rest of the BoM, has pumped into the club in the last 18mths and it's truly a staggering figure. You now have a stable, thriving club. Ready to take that step to the next level. It's evolution, not revolution. Enjoy the ride!!

Got rid of is not the case Mapleleyther.
The club need people able to spend time daily within the business now that the initial cash problems have been overcome, that was never going to be my case due to the job I do but if things change in the future I would be honoured to serve the club in an official capacity again, until that point I have total faith in its leadership to make our club the best it can be and will always be available to bounce off if needed.
For Mish's benefit my third payment will be made as per my promise - Michael has been guaranteed this. Those at the Boxing at the weekend will have noticed the bond between Derek, Andy and Myself, that bond is driven by our love of this club - onwards and upwards, and get behind this journey it will be a great ride

Why are you bringing me into it, I haven't said a word about it, nor was I going to.

For the record, (seeing as you chose to involve me) I'm surprised this announcement has taken so long as everyone knows that there's only 5 people in that gang and has been for a long time .....and you weren't in it.

Onward and upward I suppose, but am very sorry to see Andy, Neil, Trevor, Allan, Jackie and John leave. They were always a fundamental part of what was achieved last season, and what should be achieved in the future.

I know things change and, hopefully for the better, yet how good could it have been with some/all of the original BOM still on board?

Thanks to all of them for their contribution to our Club.

Good luck as always to the board,as a fan for over 50 years,I have heard about, read about and spoken to Directors on numerous occassions and whilst liking some more than others , most of them are fans who want wants best for our club, like every other true supporter.
Its not about who puts most money in, those days are hopefully behind us if we take the opportunity we have next season and beyond its back in the hands of the fans on how successful this club is going to be because bums on seats will make or break us.

Anyone who puts there hands in their pockets for the club deserves my respect and I know some have put thousands in over the years but the days of depending solely on these benefactors are over Salford are a prime example of money not being the answer,it helps but without fans turning up its a pointless expensive road to ruin.

Check your previous posts, it answers your question?? 10/10/14

You have been having a pop since Roddy went, someone is filling you with poop and you seem very willing to spread it better than any farmer I know. Some so called fans are only happy if things are not going well. especially when they are so 'in the know' icon_lol.gif

Mish you refer to a gang of 5, if you don't wish to be involved in such posts why refer to 5 highly intelligent businessmen who now represent our board as a gang?

The mind does boggle, I don't say this lightly. We are heading into what will certainly be the most successful period in over 30 years if not our entire history.

As Mo says get on the roller coaster strap yourselves in next step stop SL and who knows just maybe Wembley and Old Trafford icon_wink.gif

Certainly? Most successful? How do you define those? We have to qualify for the Middle 8 first and then get into SL and then either avoid the Middle 8 the following year or come through it all over again - that will then exceed our last SL season. Hopefully we will do just that.

As for entire history, well that is going to another level entirely - winning the Challenge Cup or the SL Grand Final, or perhaps even the double in the same year. Certain? icon_biggrin.gif

Because if you look back through the thread I hadn't commented on it till Maurice said "For Mish's benefit my third payment will be made as per my promise - Michael has been guaranteed this" so I was responding to that. I have never questioned Neil's commitment to the club, nor would I because he was one of the more honorable at the club.

BTW I refer to them as a gang because that's how I see them and intelligence has nothing to do with it, it's more a pack mentality thing. You might not like it but it's my opinion.

I'd like to offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to every single member of the board who came to the rescue and saved our fine club from going under and I for one won't forget what you did.

Mapleleyther I agree with you , the Tipster may be right about our most successful for 30 years , but in our Entire History icon_eek.gif that's stretching it a bit Ste , ive seen us win at Wembley in 71 , and Finish top of the old 1st Division in 82 , we haven't surpassed either of those yet , will we do it in the future ?Who knows ?Not even Charlie can answer that icon_wink.gif .

If you read my post again I said it will certainly be the most successful in the last 30 years. I'll be proved right in the next 3 years!

As for our entire history the next 5-10 years will dictate that, however we've never had a better chance.

I was once taught by a wise man aim for the stars if you fail you'll land on the moon...

Glass half full please Leythers!!
