| I'm a 51 year old st holder who has been watching these derbies since 1968.
Whilst very proud of my team and Leigh's fans(except flute song) it saddens me that I will probably never see Leigh compete with Wigan let alone beat them again.
When I think of some of fantastic matches over the years it nearly brings me to tears the effect of super league
On my club.
Suppose I have got the memory of woods Drummond era to fall back on.
The sport cannot be healthy when the 18th team had a 60 point start against the number 1.
Think Jamie peacocks blue print needs urgent consideration.

| Excellent post and it fits a lot of clubs not just Leigh, but it was inevitable it would happen when the RL sold it's soul to Murdoch's money. Especially when you had the likes of Mr Lindsay in charge.

| It all stems from 18+ years of a select gang of clubs squandering 100's of millions of pounds on players and naff all on improving the game as a whole .

| The same Mr Lindsay that dragged a sport from the dark ages. The same Mr Lindsay who the sport lives off the sponsorshhip / media deals he largely generated.
Odd how so many years later we are now talking about too many clubs in one area, even mergers. Perhaps Mr Lindsay had more vision than everybody here.
If it makes you feel better you do realise if this sport ever became truly national long after we are all dead, Wigan would probably not be in the top division. It would consist of big city clubs like Leeds, London and so forth.

Go on then I'll bite.........
A team from Wigan play in the top divison in football were as big city Leeds don't, so why would Wigan not be in RL's top division if it ever managed to go national?

A man that achieved far more than you or I keith. Hell, Keith you could not even stop your beloved Easts from being destroyed from within by fellow Leythers. Your a good RL man Keith but not fit to lick the boots of Lindsay. Neither am I btw.

I was but a young 21 year old at Salford when mr Lyndsey was hanging on to the shirt tail of the great alex murphy , the rest of the Salford players and myself used to laugh at him grovelling around alex , if alex went for a poo Maurice followed him and wiped his backside . Maurice would hang around any rugby ground like a young bay city roller fan . Ask anybody in the john woods era when we used to go in the local boozers after the game . For gods sake he was a bookie at haydock and still is I think .
Maurice was at the forefront of the Murdoch takeover and was giving money away to players like confetti , it killed the game and still is . He was so professional I remember him approaching nobby turley on the car park at old Trafford offering nobby a job at Wigan ( very professional ) . Maurice did get a break though as Wigan were going through a bad time , he struck while the iron was hot but jumped when the fire got out of control . I was in many deals with players with mr Lyndsey and he was a two faced man . Money was at the heart of everything he dealt in and as long as his pockets were full everything was ok , then again he was a bookie . He made rugby league a greedy sport and a dishonest sport , I won't forgive him for that . He was a hanger on who got lucky but made some poor decisions for the game . I also remember him hanging on the shirt tail of andy Gregory at Wigan st pats . Don't get me wrong he made some good decisions , like making Wigan full time pros when everyone else was part time , I don't know who's money he used but it was a master stroke that led to wigans dominance over a ten year period .
No sorry fylde warrior he did dodgy deals that put the ownership of rugby league into murdochs dirty hands the rest is history . Me well I just tried to help the game by helping kids and I would rather walk in my shoes than his'"
Very well said Keith

| Very interesting insight and a cracking answer to Fylde Warrior. I wonder if he can disagree with this view on Maurice?
