LEIGH-VE IT OUT IAN
By Martin Morgan
Published at 11:29, Tuesday, 16 March 2010
WHITEHAVEN’S new on-loan full-back Ian Mort will be forced to sit out Sunday’s clash with his home club Leigh – unless he can persuade Centurions boss Ian Millward to allow him to line up for the Cumbrians.
Mort made an impressive debut for Haven in their weekend win over Toulouse and would love to turn out against the Centurions, where he has spent his entire pro career, after progressing through their scholarship scheme.
But before his first training session at the Recre, Mort was told by Millward he could not feature for Haven at the Sports Village.
“I’m still at Leigh on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, so there’s a perfect opportunity to see if I can convince him that I can play,” Mort said. “But I strongly believe I won’t be.
“It would have been nice as I have a lot of good friends there and I’ve lived in Leigh all my life. I still consider myself a Leigh player, which is probably why he won’t let me play.”
Mort knocked on with his first touch of the ball against Toulouse but went on to produce an assured performance for Ged Stokes’ team, offering a potent threat in attack.
“I have been trying to get to grips with how Ian Millward wants me to play, but I went back to my own game for Whitehaven as I didn’t know any of their calls,” Mort added.
“For my first game I went all right. I was pretty pleased with it.
“I’d obviously like to say thank you to Ged for giving me the opportunity.
“All the lads introduced themselves to me at training on Thursday and made me feel really welcome, and I had a crack with fans after the game and they made me feel like I’ll really enjoy it at Whitehaven.”
After the initial month’s loan, Mort revealed he would be happy to stay at the Recre on a week-to-week basis if an opportunity had not arisen at Leigh.
As for who he will be pinning his hopes on for Sunday’s game, he quipped: “A draw would be a good score.
“I don’t know which tracksuit to turn up in. I might wear my normal clothes.”
Meanwhile, Haven’s Challenge Cup trip to Blackpool has been moved to Sunday, April 18, 3pm kick-off.

| Thanks for that 'haven4ever'. I imagine it would be awkward for him to play on Sunday, however professional he may be!

| Unless it cup ties a player I think that he should be allowed to play for his adopted team and it should be up to
Whitehaven if he plays or not.

| ...or maybe the club that pays the bulk of his wages should be allowed to make the decision. I suspect it would be part of the Loan Agreement anyway

| Month loans are cement and can't be broke... that's one of the reasons why the RFL brought in dual registartion so week by week could change things.
Before last seasons NRC Final Hull were trying to get Hall back for their game but due to loan agreement they couldn't do so... thankfully!

From the RFL site and about as clear as mud
C1:2:18 A Club shall not be entitled to either loan a Player or receive a Player on loan unless:
(a) it ensures that the relevant loan form (correctly completed as prescribed by the Board
from time to time) is completed and immediately sent to the Board;
(b) it receives an acknowledgement of loan registration from the Board;
(c) the loan is for a minimum period of 28 days without prejudice to C1:2:15 save where the
loan agreement states that the Player may only play for the Reserve or Academy team in
which case the minimum period shall be 48 hours;
(d) the loan is not (in the opinion of the Board) an attempt to circumvent the negotiated
transfer rules set out in Section C1:2:13.
C1:2:19 It shall be permissible to extend a loan which complies with Section C1:2:15 and
C1:2:16 for a period of less than 28 days (provided that such extension is effected
before the initial term of the loan expires). The requisite form shall in such
circumstances be promptly submitted to the Board.
C1:2:20 Any loan (whatever its original duration) may be terminated after it has subsisted for at
least 28 days by written agreement of the Player and both Clubs which termination
shall be notified to the Board in writing. The Board shall be entitled to use its discretion
to allow special

Plenty of cover if Donlan doesn't make it. Stanton, Alstead and Maden more than capable of covering that position.
