On Easter Monday constant reference to "Summit" rather than Sammut caused a few chuckles in the crowd. Does anyone recall any other amusing announcements? I seem to remember we had a bit of trouble a few years back with Faasavalu and the team from Moscow. No offence to the announcers.

Good morning Brian. I too thought 'Summat' wasn't right with the announcements concerning Jarrod!

There was a great statement from the club after they signed Eddie Bowman in 1978.

It read ........ We travelled up to Cumbria on the Sunday night, rescheduled our meeting with him until the following day, as it was his birthday, and he was "very much in the party mood!!"

I had a chuckle at the first one thinking it was a mistake, it then became embarrassing at the ignorance of the man with the mike.

I was recently talking to a former touch judge, who is a fluent Russian speaker - you never know when it is going to come in handy, in these expansionist days! He was at one of the Leigh v Moscow games, and said how impressed he was with the team announcements. (well, the Moscow one, at any rate!) I remember lifting a translation straight from Google, welcoming our Russian friends, for the programme, and then panicking like mad, about the accuracy of the translation. I have since been reliably informed that there was no mention of nerve agents, in my welcoming notes!

You kept your nerve then.

I once thought I heard Salford Lad Frank announce he was "getting a round in" ....... then realised we were running a pot & he said he was "sticking a pound in"

At the Russian game at Hilton Park I arranged with a Russian speaking policeman to use his skills whenever they were needed, he did a brilliant job and all for t he cost of a lunch in the Hilton Lounge saving me task of being a Leyth speaking translator we also won the game and made lots of new friends

Harking back to the days of Russian teams in the Challenge Cup, what happened to that particular avenue of expansionism? Shame it died a death - we could have had some tasty encounters between Russian and American teams!!
