| Hope they cushion the fence otherwise it looks dangerously close to the playing area

| There were problems in the WC final, over the close proximity of the surrounding wall, to the dead ball line.

Wasn't a player injured, as a result of sliding into the advertising boards? However, the injury wasn't serious - probably as a result of the cushioning you mention.
Years ago, the RFL issued strict guidelines about the distance of perimeter fencing from touchlines, dead ball lines, etc. That's why we had to make our pitch slightly narrower at HP.
Dewsbury are to be applauded at their ground improvements, but it's a pity they couldn't increase the size of the playing area, while they were at it. (they seem to have loads of land surrounding the stadium) However, the cost of such an exercise would be prohibitive, I suppose.

| It wasn't the advert boards that were necessarily the problem at OT, more how close the dead ball line was to the 'moat'. Credit to Dewsbury on their improvements, good to see and at last gives an alternative for any TV visits when the gantry blocks the view of three quarters of the South Stand.

| Anybody remember eons ago at Hilton Park the Oldham winger Sims(?? - played in a headguard, unusual for any player then, never mind a winger) broke his leg skidding into the perimeter wall and colliding with the concrete supports that carried seating around the touchline in those days?

Don't know about that one, but I remember Neil Turley getting quite a bad injury when sliding in to the concrete wall at HP against Swinton one year (it was Swinton's 'home' game as well if memory serves me right, fancy that?!)

IIRC around that time there were three other clubs who used HP as a venue for a 'home' game!
Was it Swinton and Oldham in the league.......then Elland? (or some other Yarkshur amateur club) switched their home draw in t'cup??
See, we even had the 'go to' ground back then as well!!

Gateshead did it in 2001 as well I think.

| Good Evening Everyone.
I vividly remember young Eddie Hunter injuring himself badly whilst colliding with the concrete panels during a mid week match at Hilton Park Railway end c1983.
A few players have luckily escaped serious injury over the years in similar circumstances.
PS the Scotch is of splendid quality tonight.
