IRN-BRU - THE NEW TASTE OF RUGBY LEAGUE !!:10619.jpg |
|
| We are just a little over a week away from a Quarter Final home tie of the Worlds most prestigious Rugby League cup and we still can not sell a ticket, a meal, a sponsorship ( are we on TV ,are we not??!!??) , a corporate box etc etc as The RFL are unable to rubberstamp dates and times.
Our near neighbours must also shoulder a lot of the blame. If they can not confirm the availability of their venue then they should have been forced to SWITCH to their opponents ground immediately after the draw instead of making a mockery of the game. Come on, How long has the date for Quarter Final Weekend rounds been known? How long have the premier league fixtures been out for? A the very least a contingency plan should have been in place.
Never mind sponsors and fans, we will also have players who will need to book time off work next weekend and to not have a day confirmed so close to big game is a disgrace !!

Referees are like women, they make snap decisions and never reverse them.
Littlerich wrote Widnes will be glad to get away from Leigh. They've been regularly pumped, roasted and left in the alley-way by the lobbygobblers. Talk about being bitched - what a torrid time they've had. They'll be looking for some A&E rest time for the next three years at least.:simpsons/PDT13.gif |

| I'm not one to jump on these things too quickly - it's tougher than most people think to organise these things.
However, this truly is a farce.
The RFL could have avoided this with better scheduling. However, once that ship had sailed they should have put their foot down, said this is when your match is to be played, find a venue. No messing around, no trying to pander to different clubs situation.
It's unfortunate for Wigan, but they need to just deal with it and decide where they're playing it.

Or the game's governing body should step in and FORCE the switch upon Wigan and then all the remaining clubs can get on with respecting the competition's integrity and completing their respective match day packages accordingly.

| In fairness to W***n, (I can't believe I said that!) they CAN play at home on Friday 11th. (The stipulated dates are 11th-13th) In my view, they should be allowed to play on that date, and the BBC should go along with that. In which other sports are the broadcasters allowed to force a team to play on a neutral ground, when they've been drawn at home?

The BBC cant reschedule in such a short period of time though can they, it was only drawn out Tues. Their programmes are scheduled much further in advance.
Sorry Wigan have to paly elsewhere or convince Mr Whelan that they wont mess up his pitch

They'd have to cancel Eastenders

I'm sure they could, they have done it in the past for example if there is a plane crash, films/programs involving plane crashes are replaced but this whole situation is ridiculous.

No need for the BBC to re-schedule. They couldn't possibly have known it was Wigan v Saints when they scheduled RL on Saturday?! I mean that BBC should show another game.

| Wont the BBC have paid for the right to show a game of their choice on the day of their choice?

| The BBC have 2 TV slots, one on the Saturday and one on the Sunday and have paid for the right to pick whichever fixtures they choose for these 2 slots. It's up to the Clubs/RFL to ensure that these fixtures are fulfilled at the times chosen by the BBC.
If w*gan can't fulfill the fixture at this time at the DW then they will have to play it somewhere else. Hopefully Whelan/Latics will relent and they can play at home but if not they need to suck it up and move. After all, THEY are the ones who signed up for the terms at the Stadium. It's not fair to leave 7 other clubs hanging whilst they try and sort this out, it needs to come to some sort of conclusion ASAP!!
Our match v Leeds could be just 8 days away!! And we still can't sell any tickets/corporate/sponsorships yet!! The whole thing is getting ridiculous and should have been resolved by now!

They could but why should they? Isn't it all about viewing numbers? Saturday afternoon BBC Wigan/Saints would probably have more viewers than the other three put together with everything else thats going on.

| So the RFL are basically powerless in this situation......FARCICAL. Come back Lewis (nah don't mean it really)
Can't remember where I read it but BBC had 1st chioce, Sky 2nd, BBC 3rd and Sky 4th. If the game they want cannot be played on that date then how can they force them to play it. The time this is taking, I am assuming everyone they have asked has said go forth, all they will be left with is the Marshes
