I was in Leigh last weekend first time since i moved 2003, i go and watch Leigh when i can then drive straight back to Cumbria. But it got me thinking about the change in Leigh and all the pubs that have closed. My local was the Boundary (closed) and a few more of the top of my head, Courts, British Volunteer, (Rubens had some fun in there) Bulls Head, And many many more to many to mention. By the way Shergars was the top place , And who remembers the Temprance bars the one in between the two old bus stations and on Railway Road, and Penny Lane Disco. Good times.

......and I'm old enough to remember when The Avenue was The Pied Bull, and Pulp was The White Horse!!!

The Saturday Night pub crawl was start in the Pied Bull, White Lion, White Horse, |George and dragon, Courts and then the Globe for last orders followed onto Ruebens.

Speaking of which - what is the Globe becoming?? seem to have been working on it for ages

When I was a lad OK. Pied Bull. Brown Cow across the Road.

Then cross back and it was White Lion' Boars Head ' Queens then Rope and Anchor. Cross the lights to the George and Dragon then the Wolpack. You could crossover to the Eagle and Child and then two other pubs before Leigh Bridge.

I blame the Salvation Army.

I was once stood outside the Swan in 1963 waiting for my mate when a chair came flying through the window and hit me on the back of the head ,

Not forgetting the Royal Oak and the Live n Let Live.

What about the WOOLPACK there was some good scraps in there

My first pub i went in was The Carters Arms top of Queen St , and then the old Bomb and Dagger club , another local drinker there was Frank B , he never bought me drink though.

Or the Railway near to the Lancastrian Squash club.

Used to be Pied Bull, White Lion, Queens, George & Dragon, Woolpack, Bridgewater Hotel, Bridge Inn, Bridgewater Arms, Brittania, Ellesmere, Royal Oak, Eagle & Child, White Horse, Swan, Brown Cow and then go into the Garrick. Rope and Anchor and that at the bottom of Leigh Bridge had already closd down

others were Muskeeter. Union .Poor Dicks. Globe and those on Bradshawgate -greenalls pub now Halifax and Walkers pub which was last used as Rix Carpets

What about the Lord Nelson on Bradshawgate, I was never old enough to go in but can remember it being there.

When I were a lad (1950), my nearest tempy bar was Tommy Sale's! Had my first pint at "Aunties" at Butts Bridge and had some good times in Bomb and Dagger
