At the last fans forum, Ian Millward spoke about player retention and how this was the strategy going forward. Despite only having Ricky Bibey, Anthony Nicholson contracted for 2012 he said all the players (excluding Jamie Ellis, Chris Hill and Robbie) wanted to play for Leigh next season.
Playing under Ian Millward, winning week in, week out was probably an attractive proposition. However Ian then leaves for Cas and we have a couple of disappointing loses.
Looking around at other teams like Featherstone, Sheffield, Batley the stability of a team, consistency and retention of players has been very successful for them. I think Leigh could learn a lot for these clubs, but in light of what’s happened since the fans forum or indeed what hasn't happened, without any new investment or a coach are any of the current players going to hang around? Is player retention now an impossible dream for Leigh?

Strange but out of the three teams you mention only Batley have won anything of any note. The most succesful team in the franchise era, Halifax, usually have had a decent turn around in personel in the off seasons.

Theres quite a few players we should try & retain but I think the most valuable ones to the bare minimum IMO are-
Donlan
Duffy
Riddy
Littler
Taylor
Goulden
Higson
Nash
Mills
(persuming that Hoppy, Nico & Pownall are staying & Nanyn is leaving)

Yes its a fair point but I wouldn't put Halifax in that consistent category and neither are Leigh. OK maybe the level of expectancy is not as high at Batley or Sheffield but they are consistently in the mix on I assume smaller budgets. |

I agree, but I would hope we could retain as much of the current squad as possible. |

Nanyn has left and i wouldnt have thought other than Goulden and maybe Mills that list wouldnt take much retaining cant see anyone bar Swinton intrested. |

Nanyn said on his Twitter the day after the game he hoped to be staying so I wouldn't write him off as playing elsewhere as yet.
A lot will depend on who the new coach is but that needs resolving very quickly as well.
