RIP Garry and RIP to all who died. Speedy recovery and best wishes to those injured and affected by this. I hope the gunman suffered. I hope he died in pain after what he did. He deserves to rot in the fiery depths of hell.

This is a shocking story, those poor people were just going about their daily lives, never to return home. Such a tragedy for all concerned. My deepest condolences to Garry's family and everyone else caught up in this horrific event.

Do you really think that would prevent this sort of thing happening again?

I was waiting for this type of knee-jerk reaction to appear.

I hold both a Firearms Certificate and a Shotgun Certificate. I own 2 shotguns which are used for Clay Pigeon Shooting and a .22 Rifle with telescopic sights and a moderator which I use at my club for competition target shooting. I take gun ownership extremely seriously as does everyone I know in the shooting community.

My guns are kept in an extremely robust and secure gun safe which is secured to the wall by 4 large bolts and my house is protected by a fully monitored alarm system. In order to be allowed my licenses I was visited at my home by the police who interviewed me and inspected my home and security measures. I had to have a number of referees who had to vouch for my mental stability and that I didn't have drink or drug problems. I also had to permit the police access to my medical records. Both licenses have to be renewed every 5 years subject to the same scrutiny. I fail to see what more could be done. It's not legally held guns which are a problem generally as it's still relatively easy, I understand, to buy guns illegally.

I, like everyone else, am sickened by the events in Cumbria and my thoughts are with the families of the deceased but further draconian measures would not prevent this happening again.

I'm sure that The British Association for Shooting and Conservation will be helping the police in any way it can but in a rational and constructive way.

But 12 people have lost their lives at the hands of a gunman with a licensed weapon. If this bloke didn't have a legally held gun at his disposal would this have happened?? Who knows?

Firstly, there still seems to be some confusion as to whether he held a license or not but either way if he did not have access to a firearm I hardly think he would have just sat down and said "oh well, I'd better give the killing a miss then". I'm sorry if that sounds a bit flippant but I'm sure you get my point.

Additional tightening of the laws following Hungerford didn't prevent Dunblane and further measures did not prevent this tragedy. He could just have easily got in his taxi and driven around mowing down pedestrians - do we then ban cars?

He did hold a licence and still killed 12 people as well as causing a lot of heartbreak to their familys.He had the same checks as your goodself but obviously something snapped and he had a gun and used it.l still think all guns should be banned.We have thousand of drug addicts but that does not mean drugs should be legal.l dont expect
you to agree,but l wont change my mind.
