Having no Plan B has been evident in the Qualifiers.

Does anyone think that next season we'll see a diffrerent approach to the Qualifiers from Leigh?

Or do you think PR and his staff will stick with just Plan A again?

Our main probelms, for me, have come from our own errors. When we've not been confident enough to execute Plan A properly - or when the oppostion have been good enough to smother our style, we've not had an alternative style to turn to, and subsequently we've been spending most games defending.

Personally, I think we should have a different Plan A - play a more conservative style of rugby, especially in our own half, concentrating on getting to the other end of the pitch and exerting mounting pressure on our opponents, whilst minimising our errors and penalties conceded. That hopefully would give us higher completion rates, more possession and make our opponents do more tackling. Our current style of rugby could maybe then be applied in our opponents' half of the field.

A Plan B could be utilised when we bring on our subs - just like we did when interchanging Penky, for Bob. (there, we DID have a Plan A and B!)

Well my view is it's nowt to do with plans A or B it's down to bad passes' giving too many penalties away and poor handling.

I'm lost now..We have DB saying 4 top signings on its way in,Weston in thats 5. Five + must go to relieve the salary cap for the new signings and we still have opinions on the team as it stands..

Alan i get what your saying, but i think the very fact that we played the way we did got us into the position we were in at the end of the regular season ie. no one expected us or any team to spread the ball so early so didn't really have the field position to counter it, i think we still need to do that just develop some alternatives if it proves the opposition are waiting for that type of play, i think that the SL coaches whose teams we played against in the qualifiers will have watched our games from 2015 where most of our success came from exactly that type of unconventional play and as others have pointed out it did look as if we didn't know how to play any other way, now being full time i would imagine that is going to be addressed .

I'm sure that lessons will be learned Ste. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed watching our exciting style of play this season, but was conscious that we repeatedly coughed up possession, and gave away territory through conceding penalties. That wasn't particularly an issue, against some of the 'lesser' Championship teams, (no disrespect intended) but against the better teams we got punished. Those must be areas that are capable of improvement. I'd love to see us continue to play attractive rugby, but maybe moderate it somewhat, so we aren't so profligate with possession.

I'm sure that tiredness, as much as a lack of 'Plan B', was an issue. Perhaps a degree of squad rotation would help in that area - whilst remaining mindful that we need to achieve qualification, for the Qualifiers, of course!?

To remain competitive and be able to outhink opposing coaches and their defensive plans you need to evolve your attack, slightly tweeking and changing it as the season unfolds, yes a ' plan B ' would also be a useful tool in our bag

Id suggest more work on certain set plays and ' situation ' tactics, you have be inovative rather than reactive

Sure did Ian. Ben Drew was his name. Good film as well by the way, Ray Winstone played a blinder as Jack Regan. icon_thumb.gif

Correct. And It's great that folk on here are identifying areas were we can improve, and I am finding that to be a positive go forward for next year.I hope our coaching staff can also adjust with their team plans/tactics as well.

Not sure we need a full change of plan I just think at times we seem to believe we have to score off every set, would rather see us force some repeat sets, we've been very poor at forcing the repeat set this season despite the fact it'd be a great advantage with our attack. Equally I don't think we need to resort to up the jumper 5 drives and a kick in our own half, would rather us keep passing it about as it's caught teams out this year but if we're going to do that we need to greatly improve our defence which has been our weakness at times. We've seemed to have the attitude of it doesn't matter if the opposition score we'll get a chance in a bit, fine in the Championship but not against SL, SL teams will gain momentum and go on a roll. As for a plan B, well obviously it's good if things aren't working but but what it is depends on who you're playing & how they're playing.
