Its now obvious that you can't build a team from cast offs and journeymen. Also there isnt a pool of quality players wishing to come to Leigh! (Its good to read Charlie and" Dick" posting again.)
The answer then is clearly relegation - sooner rather than later. Most of these players will disappear so will have to build up from basics - Roll on Academy.

Thank you for the mention , I’ve not been well for a while now , but I’m back feeling better, yesterday’s performance didn’t help , I agree we will finish bottom of the League , even at this early stage it’s inevitable,but I’m not sure relegation is a certainty so I won’t comment on that .

Things seem to be going wrong in every way , injuries to key players , mainly , but we lack size in the forwards , and have 3 trundlers in the pack , a six who isn’t up to SL standard ,and a Coach who the players like , as I myself do , but popularity doesn’t win games , I’m a big Derek fan , without his cash we would be in dire straits .

Whatever happens , I will always turn up at the LSV ,as long as my health permits ,it pains me to criticise the Coach , his back room staff and the players ,but it’s down to them , something has to change ,and soon .

Yesterday was a hard watch, confidence is very low. I too can not see anything other than this continuing. Changes to be made, big decisions to make, planning for the future?
The biggest shock is how poor we started the 2nd half.

Quite a few matches now where we haven't scored at all in the second half.

If there is relegation this season, I really don't understand why we went for promotion.

But then I'm still miffed at the 2020 season being curtailed, naturally, but that would have been a great season of Championship rugby and a great proving ground for the team that did eventually get promoted.

Good post Ian. Nice to hear you're getting better too. Yesterday was enough to make any Leigh fan unwell. I remember posting on here before the season started that i was very apprehensive regarding our halfbacks,and i did say i hoped i was wrong, because otherwise we would be in the brown stuff. I accept that we've been unlucky with injuries but, we only have a decent top championship squad.I think we are now doomed for the rest of the season,and i can't see where we can get a win. Thanks Reffy ,it’s good to be back , not only on the Forum but the LSV , yesterday I took a breath of LSV air and it felt so good , a bit strange in the East Stand , but very nice .

Shame about the teams performance , I’ve already said what I put that down to , I’m not being negative either just realistic ,I think WHEN the warmer weather arrives it will suit other Clubs more than us , I also think some fans don’t give Wakey , Hull KR , Salford , even Hudds the respect they deserve , although it was very close till half time .

If the the reason for the inadequate squad is a lack of available players and this was known at the time of the application, and that that relegation was definitely on this season, then then why on earth did we apply in the first place.

Also if most if not all of our players are on one year contracts, who will be in our squad next year? I have not heard of any players we have been linked with but glad to hear of any that we have.

There’s no easy answer

The issue we have is that we are recruiting pretty much an entirely new squad every year and have been since 2016. For me, I think we'd be best suited trying to retain a large portion of this squad irrespective of what division we find ourselves in. If the worst was to happen and we found ourselves in the Championship next season, we'd be strong favourites to earn promotion, especially if Toulouse get promoted this season.

That way, we'd have a more settled squad and more time to strengthen going into the 2023 season. This year was always going to be a struggle, no shame in finishing bottom when we had weeks to prepare when the other teams had months. Use it as a learning curve and come back stronger. No need to panic IMO and throwing good money after bad could set us back a few years.

Would be amazing if we could get him for rest of season but think we all know where he is going. Could Hastings be heading the other way?

Great post. This is the problem continuity season to season always good to bring a few new in but large numbers take half a season to gel. This team was initially being built for championship and would be a top side in that division. My main worry is the damage the season may do to the fan base and the reputation of the club. Tough on the players giving there all week to week.
