It is a shame what has happened but you have to say that Derek Beaumont has given Leigh fans one hell of a ride.

If it wasn't for his money Leigh would have been (at best) on par with Halifax and Featherstone over the last few years. Leighs ability to compete with some of the big boys and the fans will have some great memories of the last few years.

In the end it looks like to keep the team going for another year with the same squad would result in a short fall of about £1m. There are very few people in the world that can afford to lose that kind of money and Derek isn't one of them.

His banter with Koucash did a lot to promote the game.

He could have easily pocketed the parachute money and had a toned down squad this year but every effort was made to go back up.

Others at Leigh, including players and coaching staff are not blameless. However they will pay for that with their jobs.

I like everyone else have enjoyed the ride in going to SL and making a fist of it.
With a better coach and a well managed club we should have stayed in SL but that is all now history as we look to just exist next year as without backers the club will struggle..
I'm not sure why the consortium that came in to buy the club and put it on a level footing fell apart and allowed the risk that Derek would become purely the person left holding the clubs fate on his decisions(which have been well intentioned) as once that happened we became a risk.

Not knocking Derek as he's sunk a fortune in but the club cannot ever be allowed to be run by one person as when he gets bored or can't afford to justify the outlay then its shake the collection cans to save Leigh time.

I'm hoping a Plan B is in the pipeline as otherwise this club has learned nothing after going bust in what seems like a rolling 8 year cycle.

Would be interesting to know what the financial position is. The club was around £1.9m in debt at the end of 2016 It will be interesting to see if DB he rights of his personal debt (£0.9m) and the £1m due to his company. Much smaller amounts that caused MK to call it a day at Salford.

If you remember Jenky, after Arthur Thomas we had the consortium of Derek, Andy Mazey and a few others. One by one they left to leave 1 sole in charge, remember the public spat between Derek and Andy. Derek wanted full control, rightly or wrongly. Now all gone pear shaped.

People were worried once that happened again after Arthur, lots said it was a bad idea. Now we know it was.

But you cant take away it was one hell of a ride.
