Recall a match at Hilton Park. The tannoy was always a bit dodgy and had a habit of cutting out for short periods so syllables were missed. We used to refer to the announcer as Norman Collier (for youngsters, a TV comedian who had an act based on faulty microphones in working men's clubs:

At the Russian game at Hilton Park I arranged with a Russian speaking policeman to use his skills whenever they were needed, he did a brilliant job and all for t he cost of a lunch in the Hilton Lounge saving me task of being a Leyth speaking translator we also won the game and made lots of new friends
Harking back to the days of Russian teams in the Challenge Cup, what happened to that particular avenue of expansionism? Shame it died a death - we could have had some tasty encounters between Russian and American teams!!
