Leigh Miners 30 v 12 East Leeds

Leigh Miners moved back into the top six on Saturday afternoon with a hard fought 30-12 victory against playoff rivals East Leeds. Miners making four changes from the defeat at Hull Dockers with Matt Astley, Tony Doyle, Martin Gray and Brad Hargreaves coming in for Harry Gagen, Danny Jones, Connor Ratcliffe and Scott Travis.

Miners where in control early on and whilst their was errors from both sides it was always the home side who looked like scoring. The opening try of the game came on ten minutes, prop Darryl Kay going over for a simple try following an error at the back from East Leeds, Shaun Dowie converting to make it 6-0, centre Connor Partington powered over seven minutes later and that was followed by a try just after the half hour by left centre Mike O'Boyle to give the score 14-0. The lead could have been more had Miners took their chances and they was left to regret that a little when Jack Ely went over for the visitors just before the break, Nathan Conroy converting to give the score 14-6 at the break.

East Leeds come out strong after the break and it was certainly game on when Ely went over for his second, Conroy again converting to put the Yorkshire outfit within two points at 14-12. The home side ended the East Leeds momentum on the hour when Brad Hargreaves barged over in the corner, Dowie converting off the touchline to make it 20-12. Miners finished the game strong, scoring two tries in the final ten minutes, the first coming Mike O'Boyle who scored his second of the afternoon before Tom Farrimond finished the try scoring, Dowie converting the Farrimond try to give the final score 30-12.

Miners are away this weekend
against Rochdale Mayfield in the league.

Leigh Miners 2nd team made it through to the semi final of the NWML Trophy without even playing on Saturday after Rochdale Mayfield were unable to raise a side.

The u18s lost 44-38 on Sunday at home against Rochdale Mayfield

Leigh Miners Ladies game against Wigan St Pats on Sunday was postponed.
