I saw a few more people there yesterday that haven't been for a bit but what I did notice was the songs are getting louder. It must sound amazing from the north stand.

Who/what is he?

Mr Bass may not have been dealt the greatest hand in life, but he has managed to hold down a job, earn a wage and pay tax for the past 20 or so years. I will give him that.

He therefore gains an awful lot more respect from me than all them spongers I see sat and idle on the town hall square all day or sat in the bookies pumping their state hand outs into a gambler.

Shandy is portrayed by the local media as Leighs number one superfan, everyone within a five mile radius of town knows him!

A while ago, in the Hilton Arms Quiz, the picture round was "ten famous Leythers", and Shandy was the only one EVERY team got right!


We played a prank circa 2010, when a letter was posted in Blackburn with no street or road on it, just simply addressed to "SHANDY BASS, Leigh!".........and he got it, went to the press with it, and the Wigan Evening Post made him out to be one of the boroughs most famous people because of it!

Good response, and well put,lets be honest if he is perceived as a glory hunter he is one of many at Leigh over the years.
