Leigh East results 12/13th April

Leigh East 1st team 25-24 Bradford Dudley Hill
Leigh East got their first points of the season after Adam Holland slotted over the winning drop goal. It was the visitors that took the lead on 7 minutes when Neil Wall went over and also converted his own try to make it 0-6. East got back on track on 15 minutes when young winger Josh Giluley went over and with Holland’s conversion made the score line level at 6-6 but only stayed that way for 5 minutes when Dale Allred broke away to score, Holland converted, 12-6. Sam Graineyextended Easts lead on 27 minutes in which Holland converted and thatseamed to let Leigh East control the game but Dudley Hill had other plans just before half time when Wall went over for his 2nd self converted try which brought the score line closer at 18-10 at the break.
East started stronger in the second half and it took just 4 minutes the extend the lead when Holland slid through the defence to score and also converted to take the score to a comfortable 24-10. Bradford Dudley hill were to step it up a gear in the final third of the game when Kyle Bateman spun over from close range, Wall converted to make it 24-16 and 8 minutes later they were within 2 points after Elliot Cousins scored with Wall converting, Wall went on to convert a penalty goal on 76 minutes but East had the last cheer with Adam Holland slotting over the drop goal in the 79th minute to take the spoils Ryan O’Toole took thehosts Man of the Match whilst Neil Wall was voted Dudley Hill’s best Player. Leigh East will now have a short turn around to play PilkingtonRecs at home on Wednesday evening with a 7:30pm

Saddleworth Rangers 38-22 Leigh East 2nd team
East travelled to Saddleworth attempting to gain their first win of the season but fell short due to ill discipline which led to a number of penalties going against them that the hosts turned into points. However, there were plenty of positives led by Mark Ballard and Zac Nicholls, East played some quality rugby. Tries for East came from: Mark Ballard, Mike Fearnay, Lee Gaskell and Marcus Mercer with ZacNicholls converting 3 goals.

Leigh East u18s 4-6 Ince Rose Bridge
East started off brightly with a well worked try out wide by Billy Allred but silly errors let the visitors score under the uprights to put them in the lead. East thought they had got the win when Allred latched on to a kick through by Jordan Haggerty but was ruled out for offside. East will have to rebuild for there next game on the 27th April against Wigan St Jude's in the semi final of the national cup at Ledgard Avenue.

West Bank Bears 10-28 Leigh East u15s
East carried on their unbeaten start to the season after a comfortable victory against West Bank. It was East the raced into a 22-10 half time lead after tries from Danny Surridge, Corey Hamer, Brad Whelan and James Fleming and Whelan also adding 3 conversions and in the second half it was Ethan Fleming scoring the only try of the half to seal the victory, Whelan also converted.

Leigh East u14s 16-21 Newton Storm
A much improved performance was needed after last week but it was going to be a tall order against a good Newton Storm team. From the kick off this was a different East team in attitude and skill as they took the game to Newton and went into an early lead with an unconverted try from Will Ludlow. Newton hit back to score 3 trys 2 of which they converted to lead at the break 4-16. Going uphill in the 2nd half the East 17 were nothing short of magnificent and constantly battered Newton in both attack and defence. East persistance paid off with a try from Ryan Horne converted by Danny Hatton. More pressure from East again paid off with a kick to the corner for Lewis Clarke to touch down and Ryan Horne convertmagnificentley from the touchline to tie the game at 16 all with 5minutes left. East again drove the ball deep into Newtons half only to knock on and from the resulting scrum Newton kicked wide for the winger to catch and race away to score outwide outpacing the covering defence for an unconverted try. East gathered from the restart to gothrough 2 sets and then were thwarted by the final whistle.

Leigh East u13s 10-20 Wigan St Judes
East went close to beating St Judes but fell short after a number of unusual refereeing decisions which kept them away from the visitors line. East tries came from: Jack Hamer and Jordan McKay with MattyRudd adding 1 goal.

Oldham St Annes 30-6 Leigh East u12s
East fell short due to missing players but can take plenty positives from the game. Easts try came from Callum Hughes after a brilliant solo try, a last tackle chip over regathered to score under the posts and also converted.

Leigh East u11s 16-18 Wigan St Pats
In a true game of 2 halves, East come up short to a determined Wigan St Patricks side. The first half saw East fall behind 18 - 0. At the start of the second half a re invigorated East stood strong together. Excellent defensive work from Callum Thorpe and strong runs from the forward pack gave East a foothold in the game. The breakthrough came from a timely interception by Taylor Pemberton which saw him sprint over the line to post the first points for East.
With a platform to build on East forged forward with a superb run from Jordan Fishwick taking him over to score.
The game was now in the balance and East pushed hard in defence, forcing errors and maintaining good field position. This spurred on some great attacking play allowing Ben Molyneaux to score what became the final try.
In summary a great performance with just a kick separating the sides.

Leigh East u10s 1-10 Woolston Rovers
East were dominated by a brilliant Woolston team who gave East nothing apart from a Tyler Caldwell try.

West Bank Bears 7-1 Leigh East u8s
The speed of the West Bank backs earned them the tries but it was the good passing skills from both teams which made the game enjoyable to watch Josh Hopkins grabbed Easts only try but it was Cai O'Brien who earned himself the Man of the Match award off both coaches after his leadership skills taking the team forward in the middle, Romy Bell gained Best Run and Ryan Kelleher got the best tackle.

Leigh East u7s 9-8 Woolston Rovers
East continued their good form with another home victory, in a tight first period Woolston had the upper hand and East had to work hard to defend. The team showed speed and strength with a final push which eventually broke the visitors defence with back to back tries not only to catch up on the scoreboard but to take the lead. East tries coming from:Broady Allred 3, Finn Penkywicz 1, Luke Thorpe 1 and Jude Wright scoring 4 to take the Man of the Match award.
