| Leigh Miners 40 v 14 Wath Brow
Leigh Miners had a welcome victory yesterday afternoon as they beat Cumbrian outfit Wath Brow Hornets 40-14 on a wet miserable day at Twist Lane. Wath Brow were missing a few faces that played Miners earlier in the campaign but it was just the result Miners needed after being well beaten by Leigh East last weekend. The home side opened the brighter of the two teams in the opening few minutes forcing a couple of repeat sets and having all the field position in Wath Brow’s half but what’s been costing them in recent weeks cost them again, a poor pass to give possession away followed by a cheap penalty marched Brow up field and against the run of play Brow found themselves four points up after scoring out on the left side they was attacking. Miners responded soon after with a try in the left corner Tom Bradbury touching down for the first of his four tries, Bradbury converting his try from the touchline to give the score 6-4. From the next set Miners scored again with Scott O’Brien sending Ste Kenny, the pair combined again about ten minutes later with Kenny going over for his second try, Bradbury converting to give the home side a two try cushion at 16-4. Wath Brow scored their second try five minutes later, followed by a Tom Bradbury penalty goal to nudge Miners 18-8 up. A fourth home try was scored right on half time with Bradbury grabbing his second try in the corner to give the half time score 22-8.
The visitors looked the brighter of the two teams at the start of the second period and within five minutes of the restart they were in for their third try to get them within eight points at 22-14. A further ten or so minutes of pressure followed and if Brow had scored again it really could have been game on but with Miners soaking up the pressure and defending strongly they responded on the hour mark when Tom Bradbury went over for his hat-trick giving the score 26-14. From the try Miners never looked back as they finished the game strongly scoring three further tries, the first the try of the match if not the season Bradbury finishing off a great team try to take his tally to four for the game. Scott O’Brien scored the seventh try cutting through a couple of defenders to score under the posts, Bradbury landing his fourth goal of the game to take him to twenty four points and give Miners a 36-14 advantage. Adam Thomason finished the scoring off in the final few minutes to wrap up Miners biggest win of the season and a much needed 40-14 victory.
Next week Miners are at home again to Egremont Rangers
