Various reports i read state that the gangs were organised (especially in Manchester last night), with many participants in their pre teans. Although they are scum, just what type of person has raised these individuals, so they might wander around causing wanton destruction and thieving their way through our cities. For me its time parents actually started taking responsibility for their kids, ie make them responsible and therefore be held liable for the behavour of their children. I also believe its nothing to do with the 'kids have nothing to do excuse', its all to do with greed and following a leader, the something for nothing mentality

DTM I totally agree about good parenting, when I was growing up the fear of the vocal backlash (without the use of expletives I hasten to add) from my mum set the tone.
Everyone is capable of behaving badly but the majority choose not to do so, why is this?

Regards the government ,I`m in one of those services which is being targeted but which will be needed in the coming months.

We need to get them away from council houses which should be for low paid WORKING people or people who have paid their dues and hit hard times, or have real illness. We need to stop giving council houses to young single unmarried mums too, who have never worked and have no male role model for their kids. A lot of problems stem from this. Yes I know some good kids from these backgrounds (I grew up in a single parent family from age , but this needs seriously addressing.

We need a form modern day workhouses for these underclasses (people who are from families who have never worked a day in their life). This could be something modern, safe and clean - a bit like nurses homes rather than multi-bedroom council houses. Nothing nice and fancy but well policed - somewhere to be before getting a proper job, but something clearly less attractive than working life, so that people have incentives to work.

Take their kids off them in the daytime and give them a good proper disciplined schooling, and make the parents do something useful for themsleves and society - perhaps vocational education or volunteering. If they get jobs then give them back their council houses

Respect, what a great word, how many of today kids even know the meaning.
I respected my parents, my teachers and all elders and if I did anything like be in ten minutes last, I was scared of going home knowing I was in deep trouble and I would be grounded for a week.
Now kids dont care, when we was kids the worst we did was play knock and run. Wo be tide though if you got caught.

There are many things that influence the way our children grow up to be socially responsible or lack social awareness. Parenting is obviously one of them but I also believe that there is a current major influence through Urban Music. WoW i here you all thinking. But when you have gangsters being glorified in Urban rap music where these artists have risen out of ghettos you will get a belief that these people from these urban ghettos want this also. Watching music videos were gangsters are blinged upto the eyeballs driving blinged up rolls's and bentley's, gorgeous scantlily clad women drooling and dripping of them. They are singing about doing each others mothers in whilst 'F'ing and Jeffing all over the place. Is this acceptable behaviour for our children to take on as a moral road. NO. Gangsters these days are being held in such high esteem that when one gets gunned down there is chaos. no i should say complete and utter anarchy. I also beleive that if you are not socially responsible then you have no right to social benefits.
