Leigh Miners travel to St Helens tomorrow afternoon when they visit Thatto Heath Crusaders in the third round of the National Cup. With a disappointing draw in midweek miners know they will have to produce a much better display to beat an inform Thatto side who are currently second in Division One of the NCL and are currently unbeaten since october. A win for miners will put them into the last sixteen of the National Cup and the possibility of a mouth watering clash against Leigh East should east overcome Bradford Dudley Hill, Kick off is 2pm at Close St.

Leigh Miners went crashing out of the National Cup after a very poor display against an inform Thatto Heath at Close St this afternoon. Take nothing away from Thatto they was the hungrier of the teams from the off and miners can have no complaints about the result as they were beaten by a much better team on the day. Thatto opened the scoring in the first five minutes scoring in the left hand corner after some good play by there hooker, kick converted from the touchline giving the host a 6-0 lead. The game was stopped for a good 15 minutes after miners centre Lee Gittins dislocated is knee in a tackle, when the game restarted Thatto had the better of the field position and scored two easy tries after miners let the ball bounce twice from last tackle kicks to allow Thatto to score to give them a 16-0 half time advantage.

In the second half miners started the brighter scoring a try out wide from second row Adam Thomason but that's as good as it got from miners with two many errors and failing to complete there sets they didnt deserve nothing from the game. Thatto's second half tries come from an interception and a one on one ball steal near the end giving them a 28-4 victory.

Miners know they are going to have to improve and quickly with a tough Challenge Cup game next Friday against Whitehaven at LSV followed by eight important league games in the coming weeks they know anymore performances like today will see more defeats than victories.
