Leigh miners made it six wins on the trot and moved upto third in the NCL yesterday after a tough 20-16 victory away at Hull Dockers. Leon Brennan opened the scoring for miners breaking down the right centre to give the visitors a 4-0 lead. The lead was increased to ten points when Liam Coleman's cross field kick set up Shaun Marsh on debut who out jumped the dockers defenders to score in the corner, full back Jonny Youds converting giving miners a 10-0 advantage, that lead was increased once again soon after after a nice two's play sent full back Youds in out wide giving miners a deserved 14-0 lead.Dockers never gave in and kept plugging away at the miners defence, The hull side got themselves back into the game close 2 half time after a nice break down the left sent in there full back in under the post giving the half time score 14-6 to the miners.
Dockers come out the brighter of the sides after the break with alot of pressure on the miners line, they reduced the visitors lead to two points with a chip over gathered by there scrum half who dived over under the post, the kick converted giving miners a slender 14-12 lead. With the game in the balance dockers continued to pile pressure on the miners line, ,dockers could count themselves unlucky after nice play at times could have given them the lead but the final pass didnt seem to stick combined with some strong defence kept the host out. The gamebreaker came when miners broke through the dockers defence to send Hooker Anthony Nicholson racing over the line to score, Youds converting giving miners a eight point lead with the score at 20-12.Miners thought they had wrapped the game up soon after, only to be denied by obstruction after some nice build up play. With time running out Dockers needed a score and they got that with two minutes remaining scoring out wide setting up a nervy last couple of minutes for miners.
