Brian Bevan was my first sporting hero...When I was 9 or 10 I used to wait for him at the back of the stand at Wilderspool asking him to sign my match programme. He never refused but sometimes he looked as if he would turn around and go back the way he came...He never looked like the great player he was either off the field or on for that matter...He'd amble to the ground in a not too smart gaberdine mac with his boots neatly parcelled under his arm in brown paper. I must have had a hundred signed programmes neatly signed in very small handwriting BBevan. As the article says he was a very shy man. I no longer have the programmes, lost to time after house moves. if only I had looked after them more carefully....

Bradman average.
Across other sports we see the other legends who are multiple standard deviations above their peers.
