Surely as Christmas is geared towards young children, it makes sense to have a children's icon to switch the lights on? I'd hate to be taking a 7 year old to see some cauliflower eared neanderthal momentarily lifting his knuckles off the floor to press a switch tbh. Much rather them see an identifiable character and enjoy the occassion.
