He's not talking SC you've just paid Salford 300K (transfer fee) for a promising youngster haven't you?

| Quote Asgardian13="Asgardian13"You prove my point: in that period Wigan paid no attention to sensible matters like sound finance, they went crazy and it hurt everyone, ultimately even themselves. Blame it on the board, if you like, but it was the same board who sanctioned player wages and signings.'"
Jesus mate you're like a dog with a bone, and you won't listen at all. Halifax, Gateshead, oh look under a salary cap. Seriously, if you'd remove what happened with the stand out of the equation then quite potentially we wouldn't have even ran into problems - so please stop the we went crazy and ultimately hurt ourselves, it just smacks of somebody who's really quite bitter about something from the past and has twisted it to the point where there can't be a debate any more.
If you'd actually have listened, if you've got a bad financial team in charge you have problems, cap or no cap, 'going crazy' or not 'going crazy'
I actually believe the salary cap isn't a bad thing (though you can debate the specific rules of operation)

but where have i said anything about breaking the cap?
the poster stated that "Wigan waved money at it until it signed for them"
which is exactly how you signed King and Carvell if i am not mistaken

| Quote TF and the wire="TF and the wire"'they bought players and didnt play them' well they did. As soon as a player started to shine in another team, they were flashing the dosh around, Offiah, Billy McGinty, tried to with Mike Greg. They ended up with a big squad and it could be argued that players were left more than if they had stayed at Widnes, Wire etc.
'they were the only full time team again, for a time they were
'they spent all their money on players and ended up in trouble' they did. They had to sell CP to survive, almost having to play at Bolton.'"
Right so the fallacies continue, Jesus get over it we bought Billy McGinty from you. We didn't play him? he had 2 good seasons for us - you'd had him from 1982 to 1992 and given him a total of 135 appearances.
Year 1 (1991-1992) 39 appearances 7 tries
Year 2 (1992-1993) 27 appearances 2 tries
If you want to be upset that we bought some players fine, that's ok, just please stop the actual lies that we bought players and deliberately didn't play them.

Billy McGinty???....He wasn't exactly a big name at Wire, in fact it was only in his final season with Wire that he showed anything like his best. Before then he was a bit part player and I can clearly remember thinking 'What the f**k' when Wigan signed him, so I don't think it was a case of Wigan snapping up all the talent, otherwise Wigan would have took Mike Greg or Bob Jackson, who were head and shoulders above McGinty.

| Wigan also "picked up" the likes of Neil Cowie and Martin Hall from Rochdale who were hardly superstars.
Henderson Gill had been shown the door at Bradford but Wigan gave him a chance after he was at Rochdale.

Exactly right mate, which is why it's doubly ludicrous for somebody to use him as an example of Wigan having bought up players just to stop other teams from benefitting from them. McGinty was a bit player for you, and we bought him and gave him a far bigger playing role than he was having with you - not the paying him off just so he can't play for you that was suggested.
It's good to see some people remember what actually happened, rather than twisting it.
And just to make it crystal clear, i like Warrington and probably very few outside your own fans is as happy to see you coming back to prominance than as I am. Rugby League, and in particular the North West needs it's 3 biggest clubs (in the north west before any yarkshire boys get upset) to be up there challenging. I want to see big crowds and exciting atmosphere packed derbies like we've always enjoyed - it's also a great advert when it's on sky to see the stadiums packed out and full of passion.

I'm glad you like Warrington, but it's you who isn't listening. Keep regurgitating falsehoods and erroneous analysis, and it's my continuing duty to correct you. Accept the truth and you'll allow me to have a break.

You've got to be having a laugh now if you're going to start to quote any player a club signed in that context. Remind me again what year Les Boyd, Andy Gregory, Alfie Langer etc. came through your academy? And i'm sure Andrew Ettingshausen was a leeds born lad as well. Teams sign players, it's a shock i know.
I'm not denying we signed good players, and the ones you've listed had good careers at Wigan, and in the case of Hanley was sold on for even more money than we bought him for at Leeds and did a good job for them to. I was merely pointing out the myth that we signed players to stop other clubs from having them, as that would mean (and has already been daftly suggested) that they didn't get in the team and play.

its the open cheque book debate here..wigan bought any one at will in the days when wigan won the league at a canter..and you did have a bigger squad than any one else,so some players could`nt possibly play every week....when other clubs went proffesional there was more of a contest in matches...something wigan did not like
