| Since we've drifted somewhat from the elections over the 7 pages, [url=http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/blog/archives/2172here[/url is an interesting article on the demographics of the voters.

| Quote Wires71="Wires71"Slavery Point - No. As the economy develops, people develop and have more choice. Enterprise then needs to pay more and more competitive wages to attract the right employees. The wealthier the employee, the more the economy develops and so on. This drives up the wage standard.
Pushed. No. As an egalitarian I should be class and background neutral but in truth I do actually prefer to see someone on the bones of their booty get on in the world and succeed more than I would someone born into more advantaged backgrounds. i.e) I respect Theo Paphitis (who came to this country with nothing) a hell of a lot more than Stelios (who was the son of a billionaire shipping magnate) for example.
Council House I support the ability for people to purchase their own property so long as the revenues generated by this are used to develop other council accomodation.'"
Wasn`t it Henry Ford who said that the wheels of Capitalism can only turn if the workers are paid to the maximum which the employer can afford ...
On your separate post concerning the minimum wage surely the removal of it will only serve as a taxpayer funded subsidy to employers as the Welfare State would be required to prop up incomes - if you can`t pay £5.50 an hour then effectively your business model is non existent -you don`t have a business or deserve too imo ...

i'd like to see the evidence for this statement, india springs to mind as an example of where this theory falls flat on it's face!
overcrowding can lead to social problems like crime and poverty however financial unrest usually leads to facist tendancies rearing their ugly heads
eg germany in the 30's, britain last week.

Good contribution. It's more complex, just to continue the debate though I see no problem in businesses offering their sales staff a "we pay 10% commission on all revenue generated by your efforts". Employees who generate £0 get £0, those whose generate £1M get £100k. i.e) strike out min wage and piece work directives.

Hard to argue against a meritocracy, so I wont. But an interesting debate can be had when discussing "how to decide who is merit worthy". Classic question like who moderates the moderators*. Who is merit worthy enough to judge merits?

The BNP don't have much of a problem with Jews, they actually have a Jewish councillor in Patricia Richardson and many Jewish members.

if you have a collection of good merit worthy people they (in theory) should police each other. Still though like you said, how do you know if they are merit worthy ? as one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. I think firstly you find all the leading professors in each of their fields and they choose who they think is the most morally suitable. After that they put the case to the people as to the reason why they chose that person and then let the public decide if that is a merit worthy reason.
It would make sense for the health minister to be from the health service and the guy running the budget to be a master of economics. Who says the Vulcans are dull
