| We seem to have drifted a little off course here. Back to the subject of Dufty: We need a replacement for Widdop for next season as Dean is far from the finished article. Dufty started out at 6 at junior level and was turned into a fullback where he has since been found out defensively. There are pundits in Australia questioning whether he's playing in his best position and I would imagine that the player himself must, by now, be amongst them. Whilst Dufty spoke about not wishing to come to Super League a season or two ago the prospect of one or two seasons playing at 6 outside of the NRL may now look appealing.
Not doubt all will become clear in the coming weeks. Who knows, we may even have a 6 who has played at Fullback who may be looking for a return to Australia mid season?

It would seem to make a lot more sense if he was targeted to play in the halves.

I would argue no one in our current squad is irreplaceable (easily). A couple of years ago, I'd have said Clark, D was not far off irreplaceable with similar quality. I think the closest to it now is Ashton.

| I'm a regular viewer of NRL games but Dufty does seem to go missing. However, he is currently playing for a poor Bulldogs side. And he seemed to play decent rugby when partnered with Widdop at the Dragons.
My best guess is that Thewlis would fill the void at Right Wing since Charnley is gone next season. Unless they plan to use Dufty in a similar way to Kurt Gidley when he was here, mixing between Full Back and Stand Off.
Dufty is absolutely rapid and I feel that we have been missing some line speed. Williams is good for running at the line but he's the only one really trying that. Although, King does tend to find a way to break the line even though he's fairly slow.
I'd love to see Wrench and Thewlis down the right hand side, with Dean starting at Scrum Half next season, focusing on the kicking game and general game management. With Williams at Stand Off, focusing on creating chances. But with a player like Dufty with his pace making dummy runs down both sides, both Dean and Williams would get effective support when spreading the ball.
And if we can get some big props, Clark can start breaking the line from fast play-the-balls again. So if there's anyone here close to the club, let them know Taniela Paseka at the Sea Eagles is the man for the job... Taller and heavier than Walmsley, also 8 years younger with loads of pace. Not even a starter, usually on the bench so could be poached away. But trust me, he's a tank.
Slightly off topic with some of this but if the above comments are the case for next season, I'd be excited about Matt Dufty coming in.

Don't be confused Captain. Greet him at Ringway with a handshake and a pat on the back and take your pitchfork and a cigar to his first game then set one of them alight at the final hooter.

| If this does fall through, i'd make a hard play for Mason Lino to partner Williams. Each to their own of course but i really rate him, He's good at everything we need in a half.

Says renowned sage Matt Shaw. There’s truly nothing in that article except for HIM saying “Oh hang on, the bulldogs have a new coach now - maybe he’ll keep Dufty”. Seriously? That’s a published story? Wow.
