I found it ironic that Louise Minchin asked the other day, "what could be done to stop panic buying" while presenting breakfast TV.
The media banging on about it, with pictures of empty shelves, just encourages the masses to then follow suit.

Well if we have to do the same Matt Davis is going to have a field day.
Seriously though, I wonder if it is an option to delay the SL season by eg 5-6 weeks to get over the worst of the infection spike ?

Yes but we live in a country with a free press.
The Chinese dealt ruthlessly with people who were trying to spread news about the virus and I'm not sure I'd prefer to live in that society.
Although we may find that China was better able to contain the pandemic than Western free societies.
I think we're at the point now where we have to accept that Super League will be significantly disrupted this season. Coronavirus poses a risk to the players too - and although super fit athletes are probably at the low end of mortality risk, it might put a player out for a considerable amount of time, if they get a nasty bout of pneumonia with lung complications, and then need to get back to the level where they can play 80 minutes of professional rugby league.
So keeping the players out of risk of infection should be a priority.

| Not looking good. Looks like only a matter of time before sport is hit hard.
Could be very messy with funding streams chopped.

| With the big increase in cases in the UK I suspect we will see restrictions on the size of gatherings very soon. Northern Italy is virtually a 'laboratory experiment' now with regards to what happens if the infection rate is not controlled.

| If schools are being closed down, SL is going to close very soon. It's not responsible to have spectator sports going on when you are trying to limit peoples contact.
Also what about the safety of the players. Once one player gets it the whole dressing room is exposed, and then their families.
2020 will be the season with an asterisk in the record books. I've already mentally switched off from this season and stressing about whether we will make the playoffs or should Price stay or go. The health of Wire fans, players and everyone at the club is more important.

| would it not be easier to quarrentine over 60's and those at risk away from the general population and allow everyone else to catch it in their own good time? in 80% of cases Covoid-19 consists of 'flu-like' symptoms. if we all get it early and our immune systems fight it off naturally that is surely better in the long run?

Isolating Care and Nursing Homes will almost certainly be one of the next steps, but you only need to look at what has happened in Italy to realise that large numbers of people that require hospitalisation will crash our NHS. All medical staff over there are involved with CV patients rather than their normal elective surgery work. And even then, they are having to decide which CV patients to treat. That is what happens when you allow the virus to take its natural course and is why countries are trying to do exactly the opposite; slow the infection rate and spread the numbers over a more manageable period of time.
Then there is the risk of a recession. Which is why the small business measures were announced in the budget yesterday. Airline and travel company shares have already plummeted, but small companies are very vulnerable because of their cash flow; with little reserves and perhaps a bank loan they depend on their monthly income to pay salaries and debts. If work dries up or they don't get paid by customers they go to the wall. Have a look at the stock market over the past month;
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/topics/c9qdqqkgz27t/ftse-100
Have a look at the price of oil;
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/topics/cmjpj223708t/oil
Some of this will indeed be panic (markets are driven by fear and greed), but there is a genuine possibility of a major recession with lots of job losses.
Finally think about the general effects on society. Policing the streets, providing an ambulance service, looking after school children, young adults looking after elderly relatives, bus and train services, the financial system etc etc. Our society is complex, it doesn't take much ( heavy rain, leaves on the line, 1cm of snow on the roads) to destroy the equilibrium and cause chaos.
