Singing this is basically giving voice to a collective tacit acceptance of failure.

and the club made flags to support it......just an example of us accepting mediocrity.....a mentality change is a must, from top to bottom.

| In the midst of pre season I expected us to lose our first 3 games of the season with this Fridays game v Toronto being our best chance of a win....
I did not expect to be demanding to play a championship winger in a key position to give us an attacking edge...
I did not expect to see a dreadfully weak pack...and last minute signings like leilani latu
Each season seems to get more desperate.....despite a sprinkling of finals....
I really have no idea the direction the club is going....

This is true. At a recent fans forum KF stated that he hated this chant however no arguments with KF and him being happy to settle for mediocrity.
He appointed Price in the first place he's not going to sack his mate anytime soon IMO.

It does astound me how poorly the club is ran nowadays.
You look at Simon Moran and how he has built up his SJM empire. The guy is a multi millionaire, very successful businessman. It's hard to see how SJM has become so successful and turns over millions of pounds year on years if he employs people who make the same mistakes as they do at his rugby club. You'd imagine to get where has has he'd be this absolute no nonsense ruthless guy but it comes across as quite the opposite.

Do you think he even has a shortlist of possible candidates? I'd have been drawing one up last Sunday evening if there wasn't already one from the end of last season. When we lost Tony Smith it seemed like we had absolutely no idea where to turn! If we underperform over the coming month or 2 and Steve price does lose his job I'd like to think the next coach would be in place within a couple of weeks, having already been identified and accepted with only terms to agree on.
What will probably happen will be another exploratory trip to Australia wining and dining a load of coaches uninterested in moving to superleague in search of the golden goose.

Hmm, well, if you compare where the club was before he got involved, and also before he stepped up his investment in 2004, to where we are now, we are a million miles ahead. Look at the stadium, the calibre of players we have, the fact we aren't being involved in stories of players wages not being paid and worrying about whether the club will go into administration, and also 4 Challenge Cups.
In the history of Wire the Simon Moran era has been a period of fantastic success, even if we haven't won a Grand Final yet, that is the only yardstick which we haven't yet achieved. Also he has done it in the right way, he hasn't used the club as a vehicle for his own self-promotion or a way to make money like so many owners of sports clubs, he's stayed in the background and basically guaranteed the club's future and taken us to a place where the thing that agitates us now is whether or not we win the Grand Final, rather than will the club go bust. It's 'first world problems' compared to where we were.
It's not the sole metric of success, it's like saying SJM concerts aren't successful because they aren't as big as Live Nation. Maybe Live Nation are more ruthless at driving up concert prices, using secondary ticketing market, embracing the faceless 'minimum customer standards' approach of modern capitalism but it's gigsandtours.com for me and not just because of the Wire connection. Look at how artists like Take That and others in the industry speak about Simon Moran and you can see he does things the right way. Maybe that means taking a bit of time to make a decision rather than responding to the populist demand for action and maybe sometimes the board has acted too slowly rather than too quickly and needs to recalibrate but the overall trajectory of the club has been in the right direction and we have a haul of 4 Challenge Cups so we have been winners, we've won more than any era since Bevan, we just haven't won the GF yet.
I understand the desire for a ruthless figurehead and I moan a lot about us lacking a relentless winning edge but if Simon Moran sold his stake to Koukash and he was on twitter after every defeat saying "this is unacceptable! things must improve and they will! mark my words!" I doubt we would be happier.

I agree that Moran has been a superb owner so far.
I do have question marks about the constitution of the board in general. With the exception of Moran, it's old and stale and clearly the push for diversity has passed them by.

| This idea that “the club” has a mentality of accepting second best is, absolute boll*cks. They may not always make the signings they want, the signings they do make may not always work out. However if you think there is anyone in the Clubs hierarchy that doesn’t want to win the GF (repeatedly) then you need your bumps felt. The owners don’t pump large sums of money into the club because they want to be second/third/fourth best.
As for the chant reflecting an acceptance of mediocrity you couldn’t be more wrong, in my view this is an attempt to take the sting out of something that hurts all Wire supporters deeply ie the lack of a GF.
I’ll get off my soapbox now.

Don’t get me wrong I think Moran is a fantastic owner. He’s probably the best thing to have happened to us and he seems like a great guy to however my one criticism would be that he seems to nice and therefore there’s this acceptance of mediocrity that has crept into the club over the last 7 years or so. The board stuck with Tony Smith for too long and didn’t act to remove him when it was clear he had lost the dressing room and performances had gone stale for months and months. Last season our form was dire, yes we won the cup and that was great however London have won more SL games than us in the last six months and consequently I don’t think nobody could have argued had we removed Steve Price at the end of last season especially when a world class coach like Shaun Wane was available but we appear to just stand and wait.
Compare it to Roman Abramovich at Chelsea. He does not mess about and not does he accept mediocrity. How many managers have Chelsea had in the past 15 years but at the same time how many trophies have they won?
