| I think "movin on" is being much too kind to someone who swears constantly/loudly and upsets people. It's pathetic and puts some off going to a game.

Spot on IMO and there is also a bit of an opportunity of some self policing by a rugby crowd if it becomes a bit too much for example if there are kids/ladies present and the unruly behavior is incessant or beyond the pale.
Although I've yet to understand how that acceptable level is set, one of life's great mysteries is that ironically it was probably easier to define in the un-PC world of the 60's/70's than it is today, where people seem to feel the need to be outraged about most things

Too right.
The odd mild swear word here and there is ok with many and often amusing, guilty myself but sometimes the extreme use of Cs Fs Ts crosses the line.

| There was this miserable guy there on Friday night at the top of the stand, constantly effing and jeffing and blowing his top every time Atkins lost the ball or Wigan slipped through a missed tackle. It didn’t end until he left to do his post match interview... I was quite pleased he was angry to be honest

Exactly the same for me. City from 6 years old on the old Kippax and at away games, I remember my Dad saying "you'll hear some naughty things and you can even join in with them in a few years but they are for the football and football only"... even now as a 35 year old i still do not swear in front of my Mother and work in a job where i have to talk professionally with no swearing and do it with no problem despite hearing the worst of the worst from 6 years of age on the old football terraces. But i do swear at both the footy and the rugby now and always will and so will generations of fans in the future.

The ladies who were stood behind me on Friday were worse than a lot of the men... "tW@ him" "eff off Tomkins you ****" were just a few of the ones they used. To look at them they looked like nice, mild mannered girls in their twenties with their Mother/Auntie who looked in her 50s.

From ladies to ladettes then, confusing times indeed especially for me, a bit of a 'Gene Hunt'. The boundaries might not be where they are now and are definitely lower, but, at least you knew where you stood.

I agree that there is a line, but, that is the difficulty, where is it? What might cross it for you might not for others and what if you end up with a zero tolerance approach so that no one can possibly be offended then that can't be right Shirley, maybe it is?

I don’t normally swear at all at a match, but now I know have a free, single-use “C**T” expletive, I’ll save it for the queue at the food kiosk for when they run out of lids for my cup of hot Bovril... . Just got to remember not to use it repeatedly

Crikey...I better get my Dad moved asap. We sit in that corner and I often have to restrain him. If there are kids around he gets gagged!! Didnt know it was a family zone.

| Rugby crowds are far more mild mannered than the football mob, I don’t go to footy games as I don’t follow any team, but the stuff I hear when I bother to watch a game on Sky, well I laugh my head off about someone moaning about someone shouting f***, especially when the footy lot really go OTT.
Anyway we at a sporting event were passions can and will run high, we not at the opera.

| It's funny thing swearing. As the words themselves cannot cause offence, only offence can be taken at the words by the listener. The listener is in control.
