Ah, that year full of excitement and promise, where we still missed out, and it all ultimately proved to be yet another false dawn.

| At what point do the hierarchy at the Wire look at this pile of pooh and say to TS "what the feck is going on"?
I now believe that the team has gone too far for the current coaches to be able to turn it around, sadly its time for change.
As with others I was watching and thinking why did we sign Kevin Brown, consistency is his game and sadly its consistently garbage. As for Matty Russell he is getting away with murder, Riley and Penny have been hammered on her for poor shows, this bloke is head and shoulders above them for bad games.

Exactly, are the management happy for the club to be in this position ? Probably one of the best sponsored teams in SL. Is there no sense of urgency,no alarm bells ringing. Will a visit to Wembley paper over the cracks again ?

At the risk of being shot down in flames, I actually think Brown has been doing a lot better in recent games than he did earlier in the season. If he weren't playing then i daresay we wouldn't have beaten Widnes and, against Wigan, a couple of his stray passes were errors by Westwood. Don't get me wrong, he isn't setting the world on fire but without him, at the mo, we'd be in a worse place........ well......in my opinion anyway.
In terms of Russel I'm very 50:50. In terms of his acceleration over short yards, he's second to none, and his strength to bump off numerous defenders is impressive and we would have scored less against Widnes and less against Saints if he hadn't rounded their winger and offloaded to Evans (i think it was) who broke and then, next tackle, we spread the ball wide and scored, and managed to squeeze over himself in the corner. But he is too short, isn't the best at passing and, as numerous people have noted in recent weeks, would get run over all day by bigger and stronger wingers.
Having said that, Penny and Riley were definitely binned for less mistakes than Russell makes!

Tony Smith and Agar are bomb proof. If they were going to get rid it would have been when we were 0/6.
Now we have only lost 1 in last 8 and on the up! Few referee decisions here and there, little more luck with injuries, if the crowd got behind them a little more and actually supported instead of moaning we could be 6th or even 5th. As Brown said in the Guardian we are unstoppable in full flow.

Schofield has summed it up well in the league express today, Russell is either 8/10 or he's atrocious.
Just to say as well, for wigans last try, if I were ratch, covering for Russell having switched off, I'd have took Burgess out in the air, bundled the lover.
Yeah you'll get carded, but you do that before he gets the ball the VR can't give a try for that.

| Smith needs to put his pride to one side and drop Russell and Brown into the reserves. He did the same to Lineham for less. Russell has got to have something over smith, it just doesn't make sense. He is utterly woeful.
give that young union lad a chance or Ryan jones, they couldn't possibly be any worse.
Too many players not playing to their pull potential. I'm not sure what Dwyer actually brings to the team when he comes on. anyone can stand behind a play the ball and pass it. Morgan Smith comes on and takes a step, ties the markers up and releases a runner. instead he's dropped to accommodate yet more deadwood.
And that is the difference between Wigan and Wire. Wayne rewards players who are playing well. Smith plays names he likes or faces that fit.

| I found it amusing that towards the end of the Hull/St Helens game, the Wigan and Saints fans teamed up to give you lot a rendition of 'it's always your year'!

I think the problem there was that Ratchford was just that bit too far away from Burgess to make any sort of attempt to get the man or the ball (from memory).
Question though, if Ratchford had have done that, he gets sent off, penalty to Wigan, quick tap and we defend on our own line with a man down while Wigan throw it around. You just know that we would have missed one tackle, under the posts and Wigan go on to win!!!
