Quote: silver2 "A valid point. However as the discussions and opinions of this forum will have no effect whatsoever on who the club buys or selects maybe all we can do is fully support the team especially during the playing season.'"

But isn't that the point of a forum, I don't for one minute want or expect the Club to take any notice of my opinion. I want to join in a discussion with fellow fans about the club I support. I know there will be alternative views, and respect those even if I don't agree with them.

It's not a question of blind loyalty. I am all for constructive discussion, however some of the posts are nothing short of character assassination
of players.

Agree with most peoples assessment of R Evans good in defence poor in attack

Curve ball that's not be mentioned - would he make a good second rower?

Following the move both Westwood and Hughes have made - at least until Currie returns

i thought we were short in the back row at the start of this year, despite signing westerman and hughes, we were still missing harrison, laithwaite and bevans, and westwood had been moved to replacement prop, despite the 13 on his shirt. so one injury we were straight into the kids.

Well, Rhys to second row is a new one. Quite how a player who can't bust a tackle in the centres is going to cope in the maelstrom of the pack is an interesting one. I don't know how Joe Philbin would feel if we whipped out the shoehorn again and prised either Evans or Atkins into the second row, but pretty hacked off probably covers it.

Please, [iplease [/i let's have the players in the right positions. Putting you on the wing doesn't make you a winger, any more than popping a skullcap on your head makes you a prop. If messrs Russell, Atkins & Evans are not going to excel any longer in their natural positions (FB and centre respecitively) then they become squad players or move on.

Gidley and Ratchford are exceptions as they have been utility players for most of their career, and are capable of outstanding performances in many positions, but putting players in positions they are not suited to, comfortable with, naturally gifted at or have the physical and mental prowess to adapt to, does them, and the team, a massive disservice.

The "shoe horning" of players would be one area of concern for me over our coach. He seems to have "go to" players that he trusts not to let him down and will therefore play them out of position to keep them in the team. Without question there have been times where an out and out winger would've scored where a makeshift winger hasn't.
I think the Catalan game showed how a team with speed on the wing can be transformed.

I agree Evans is no Currie or Bateman who can side step and then power thru a defensive line - but neither is Hughes or most of the other 2nd rowers in the Superleague (which is why Currie & Bateman are the stand out 2nd rowers in Superleague)

Evans is a solid defender with a good first contact tackle who makes decent yards when carrying the ball - very much in the young Westwood mould. Its quite obvious he isn't a natural centre so the options available are Squad player (dual reg) keep him where he played in 2016 get rid or utilise him in a new position at least until Currie is available

Evans isn't a solid defender though, a few good reads earlier in the season seem to have clouded people's judgement. He's a decent superleague player and after wing (if penny is to be forgotten) then right centre is the easiest position for us to improve on.

Defensively wingers often, at Wire come in for a raw deal.
You need a centre that can command his space defensively inside the poor sod on our wing.
Whereas centres like we had with Bridge and we see with Gelling, by commanding his area, he keeps his winger in check.
Jumping out of the line like Atkins and Evans do or wandering to the opposite end leaves his winger high and dry.
Isn't it about time we started to sign beasts for our 3/4s?

I don't understand investing heavily in a winger (lineham) and then having a rubbish centre inside him... a great centre makes a winger look good, a crap centre does the opposite.

With Currie out of action for sometime I think the purchase of a Second Row must be a priority.

I want our two centres to be Ratchford and TKing every game all season next year. Stick with them and let them develop with Lineham and [I wish] Penny (or a new singing) and we'll be a different attacking animal on the outside next season.

We'll have Hughes and Westwood with Currie to return and Wilde ever improving.

Is Grix back next season?
