| Many of us are down after last night so, as usual, individual players are being criticised even when there's no obvious lack of commitment on their part. However, if the referee had applied normal Super League standards the likelihood is that we would have won and everyone would be happy. The players would be viewed as gods and talked of for the next 50 years. Clearly any sporting team in the world could in theory be improved by the inclusion of new players but that's not the issue. Instead, once again the problem lies in the referees interpreting the rule book in favour of the Australians. Eric Clay must be turning in his grave.

Are many of us down after last night? I don't see it on here and I didn't see it last night. We were beaten by a better kicking game and a lack of composure with the ball when we had it. Referees can influence games there's no doubt, but, when the first high shot went un-carded, yellow for mine then, we all knew the script for the evening didn't we?
Each team had a period of dominance in the game and I'm quite encouraged for the rest of the season and certainly not down. Come on Silver2 keep your beak up there's lot's of positives

| Wasn't Evans the nearest man to their try line when he was pulled back?
So no penalty try then.

Ah, yes when I referred to "us" I didn't really mean to include myself. Ive seen too many defeats over the years for it to bother me anymore.

The knob in the crowd next to me got very emotional towards the end, threatened to kill me, then said hes going to St Helens on Sunday to laugh when they lose.
Dont think he also realised im a Widnes fan haha.
Such hate towards the Saints!

| A cliche I know but you must get the small details right(the aussies do),wire knocked on at the play the ball at least twice to my memory relieving pressure on both occasions and why the halves insisted on putting the ball aerial every time baffled me.A great contest for the neutral though.

| As long as the rules on head high tackles revert back to normal after the series then I'm fine. Players welfare should be paramount.
As for the game, we made too many errors and had a bobbins kicking game.
Best team won.

| St George were expert at protecting the reciever catching the ball . The defenders made certain they knew where the attackers were running and got in their line early enough to make it hard to give a pen. Against SL opposition Joel would have scored at least a couple.

There was loads of that sort of niggly crap going on. I don't watch much NRL so can't say if that's par for the course down there, but it was frustrating to watch. They were the better side, definitely, but some of their 'gamesmanship' was a bit hard to take.

| Quote: Wire Yed "Pretty much my take on it, people making out our players need protection...yet both players jumped straight back up with zero injury, i thought the first was a yellow personally one for high and two because he breaks the line, he doesn't get hit and i think he'd of run through and scored.
Imagine if last night had been officiated by James Child, he penalises everything, he has no thought for the fans and just letting it go.'"
On the contrary, he didn't let the game flow. He refused to give penalties for lying on and slowing the ruck down, which in turn made for a turgid second half.
St G adapted better by lying on at all times and knowing they would not be penalised - not a pretty sight. For some reason Wire did not lie on or slow the St G game down as, if they had adopted the St G tactics they would probably have won the game.

....As for the high shots themselves, at worst it was a yellow because it was reckless. But it was also instinctive and absolutely wasn't high on first impact. It was shoulder and down across the chest, which slipped up. As I said yellow for being reckless, nothing more.
The second one, which the daft fool on Sky was wetting himself about, was again nothing more than a penalty. Initial impact was just above the elbow and slid up under the chin. Penalty, nothing more......'"
So, what you are saying is, it is OK to deliberately swing an arm from your hip level up into an opponents chest/shoulder and let it slide up into his chin/face/head and nearly decapitate him, without being carded?

| Lots of interesting points on here. Some I agree with some I don't, but for me there was several key points that came from the game last night.
1. The refereeing is too inconsistent and until that is sorted the sport won't be able to progress to the level of NRL. What's the point of having a sin bin law if they don't use it? Same again with the penalty try rule. Why are referees 'letting things go' against the Aussies year after year to serve up a better game. Rules are rules and are there for a reason. All Ganson does on Sky is back up referees - pointless.
2. We aren't that far away from NRL standard and provided a tough test for St George last night.
3. We are a good side who I fully expect to finish in the top 4 this year
4. St gGeorge won the game yesterday through the kicking game and game management of their half-backs. Ours was very poor and our kicking game was awful. We need to improve our half back pairing IMO for us to develop. Our next acquisition NEEDS to be someone to play alongside Myler.
5. There were more positives to come from last night than negatives.
