| I don't know if I'm missing some richly amusing vein of irony in some of these pro-Agar comments, or some people have simply taken leave of their senses, so I'll spell it out.
Agar and failure have, to date, gone hand in hand. He has no place at a progressive ambitious club like Warrington.
Anyone musing that his appointment would be good for us needs to stop standing so near to their microwave oven
Michael Monas may one day, having served his apprenticeship, be a fantastic coach. Until then, he has much to learn
Poching & Marshall HAVE done their apprenticeships, and done very well. They deserve their chance before anyone else.
I don't care how good friends Agar & Smith are. I don't care if they send each other poems written on lavender-perfumed pink notepaper.
Wires have taken a long rocky road to reach the summit we currently jointly occupy with the games elite, and we won't remain there by settling for cast-offs, has-beens and neer-weres.

| Like mark_m says you don't often see coaches stepping up from assistant to head coach with success, but you do get it occasionally: Elliott and Noble following Brian Smith at Bradford; Wane following Maguire at Wigan; the Liverpool boot room with Shankly, Paisley Fagan and Dalglish. One common thread with those sides is they were all strong teams with stable personnel and leaders on the field.
I think something that gets missed with the talk about coaches is some teams are quite easy to coach, if they have a really professional group of players that have leaders on the field. Leeds today being a classic example.
In other teams its not as easy and probably the main reason assistants don't make the step up very well is because they are usually less well known names taking their first job and so they don't get given the time by the fans or media and also sometimes I think players take liberties when an assistant steps up. It's kind of like the kids at school that will sit quietly when the headmaster comes in but when the supply teacher is called in they throw stuff around.
Also at Liverpool, Bradford Bulls especially or at Barcelona in football these clubs had a particular ethos and identity about the club: the "Liverpool way", the Barcelona style of tiki taka football, that are naturally easier for an insider to take on rather than an outsider.
Although we have played good rugby I don't think Warrington have necessarily got a Tony Smith identity. What is a Tony Smith identity, you can't really define it easily. But strangely his brother had that effect, although he hasn't won the trophies, Brian had that aura of being a legendary coaching guru whose assistants follow him and his style. Maybe the difference is Brian had a much bigger ego and charisma surrounding him, Tony is much more naturally shy and just a good coach without the whole aura surrounding him.

| I have no issue as No.2 but why would he quit(not sacked) as a No.1 and become a No.2 at another club unless
a) he was sure he was in line for the top job somewhere down the line
b) he acknowledges he's no good.
c) he has no ambition

What about Steve folkes who I think was linked with us at some stage towards the end of his bulldogs career. From nrl winning coach to fitness coach for the west indies cricket team.
He is now assistant at St George. I don't know if he left when they sacked Steve price. But he could still be there as an assistant. That's lack of ambition or maybe he's like Brian Noble a once top coach that actually for some reason no one wants.
Richard agar may have seen that at Warrington we stick by our staff, It's a better place to work than at wakey. Hes got a chance of being involved in some big games. And the pay may not actually be that different from the head coach pay he currently gets. I would say is a smart move. If he comes as assistant then I don't have a worry. If it's the head coach then yes I'd think wtf....

| Both assistant coaches leaving at the end of the season! Contracts not renewed!
Agar is coming in as Assistant, wanted away from Wakey because of the instability!
Waterhouse is going home.

If true I can not fathom why both their contracts have not been renewed, I thought both were being groomed to one day one of them to replace TS.
I think we all thought Waterhouse was going he is such a cracing player and will be a massive loss to us.

I'm guessing you consider yourself a better judge of assistant coaches than Tony Smith then?

| Poaching doesn't offer a lot from what I've heard. His input apparently stops at laying the cones out.

| I thought Richard Marshall was the next best thing in rugby league . Is there any truth in the rumour that Poaching & Marshall are leaving or is it a made up fact ?

Given Jimmy Lowes was his asistant for a period, perhaps I am.
