Don't know how much we paid for him, but he hasn't played ONE game yet.
And I don't know who he is trying to fool by running on the pitch at the end of the game and shaking everybodies hand as though he has done the full 80 -- he still has his suit on.

| Quote: ninearches "Here is one the older posters will remember, from the days when the game was in black & white...John Tembey, signed from Saints for £5000 which was a lot at the time ,a prop who broke his arm or leg soon after starting his Wire career , came back ,quickly broke his other arm or leg & had to retire .He didn't do much for the time he actually played.'"
Can just about remember him. Nine Arches and Winslades, can you remember us selling Jack Melling to Wigan just before the Murphy era and getting Colin Standing (a Welsh second row), and cash in return? He played half a game at Leeds and then promptly retired and was never seen again. 1969-70 I think, that awful year just before Ossie Davies stepped in.

Sorry but I always disliked Bishop, especially when he went back to Australia leaving us with no scrum half against Wigan at Maine Road
There have been many players who were not quite up to it, people always bang on about Dallas Meade but he got a career ending injury after a few minutes of his first game.
In recent times I would go with Sullivan although I think Cullen takes the blame for that.
For oldies like me Tony Waller is another one

Bishop was a legend. If only for his 5 drop goals against Wigan.

I remember the name but not much else I am afraid. I certainly remember Melling.
Those were depressing days in the main. We 'travelled in hope rather than expectation' as they say.

He was a very good centre who represented Lancs and GB U24's. Unfortunately injuries got the better of him.
Anyway back to the rubbish who've played for us. Anyone mentioned the great Leon Felton?

Vaguely remember Standing ; Melling was a hero as was Tommy Conroy.
About that time we also bought Norman Cherrington from Wigan in the twilight of his career & he was a shadow of what he had been. Dave Cotton didn't do much either !

| I must say also, that my most vivid memories of Brian Glover involve him dropping the ball...every time he got a pass it seemed to bounce of his stomach.

Yes, he always looked a bit pigeon chested to me. Rhys Williams reminds of him, same sort of build.

You would never catch me with one of those childish signatures: |
|
| Tukere Barlow, signed around about 94 ......played like Ken.
Although he did score a winning try v Salford in the regal trophy live on the BBC.

| Remember replacing Allan Bareman with Andy Currier.
Currier was at the end of his career and garbage for us.
How about Dave King at prop.... came over for the holiday.
Don't buy the cheap shots on Mike Wainwright on p1 of this thread.
We also had Martin Dermott for a few games if I remember rightly...... very poor
Rodwell was never fully fit if I remember rightly.
