Quote: Moe syslak "Maybe i'm just being sentimental, but the chants at wilderspool were a million times better than the ones sung nowadays at the hj. Why does nobody do the 'give us a W' chant anymore? Used to love that especially putting on my deepest voice when it came to 'E'. Also, when a brawl started on the field you always got a massive chant of 'wires aggro, wires aggro, whoa whoa'.'"

Quote: latchfordbob "You're bang on the money there pal. Sky Tv and the likes of soccer am are killing the little of what is left of terrace culture. Generic songs for generic fans sat in generic stadiums. Standing when they're told, sitting when they're told. Clapping and cheering when they are told. The only teams in football and RL that I see are trying to generate their own unique atmosphere is United (away especially Carling cup) and FC united.

Clubs (and towns and cities) use to have their own unique identities. This has been slowly erased over time to the point where you can now go to virtually any town/city centre and they are almost identical. From the shops to the fashions to the pubs to the music.

One thing to mention though, Tom Hark has always been sung at Warrington and United in the days I have been going.

The wigan/scousers are here
We don't know why
Coz after the match
They're gonna die'"

Ha, yes. Common sense at last!

I detest Liverpool, and a lot of what they stand for, but have to ask yerself, what is more impressive, X amount of Koppites at an away game belting out 'poor scouser tommy' for example, or the cool kats in the barmeh armeh singing some generic 'Soccer AM type' song? Sporting their replica's over their Henleys Hooded tops? icon_biggrin.gif icon_wink.gif

I guess you never went in the Pepperhill when Des was the landlord then.

Quote: magic piano "Unlike St Terry Newton? You take drugs you should be binned out of the game permanently, "performance enhancing" or otherwise. And yes that includes Andrew Johns and any (and I mean any) Wire player past present or future who ends up failing a drugs test.'"

I've never said Terry was a saint? I have a soft spot for him, he was my favourite player when i started watchin rugby in 2001 and theres always been something there for him. i was gutted when he took drugs, devastated he died, but it was right he was banned for 2 years. dont think they should be banned permanently but thats my personal opinion

Forgot about him too - another who should have been banned from the game

The outpouring of grief since Newton took the coward's way out has been sickening. He was a very good player, as I said at the time he was a pantomime villain, but he was still a thug and a cheat who rather than sort out his issues in a way best for his family hung himself so his family & children would see his body. In calling him a saint my tongue was firmly in my cheek with a large sense of reality - all the girls I saw at OT wearing "do it for Terry" on the t-shirts need to take a long hard look at what he actually was & did.

I havent been to watch Liverpool for 3 season now mainly because its crap, the entertainments garbage, the prices are a joke and I'm not having some moaning bleedin Scouser pretending he's some feckin know it all over qualified badged up Coach when he's just a dick from toxteth.... football sucks a dogs nads

I'd never consider stopping watching Warrington.....Ever...

your post basically says that football fans sing songs better and wear nice clothes while they are doing it...... sounds like feckin Sunday school to me pal

The day singing and Chanting and fashion sense is more interesting than the sport of Rugby League itself I'll stop going. fortunatley that will never happen. that happened in Football years ago....

Footballs has always had better songs and chants than Rugby but both have deteriorated over the years to a generic mush bar a few exceptions.

There isn't much difference between a football crowd and a rugby crowd. You talk about someone sat next to you at the football talking cr@p, the same applies at the Rugby. You here so much rubbish stood at the Rugby, so many people think they know the game but they clearly don't. One woman behind me at the Huddersfield game was so bad she was told at least a dozen times by different people to shut up (not that she listened), she was shouting that much nonsense.

As for giving up going for not being entertained. You can't honestly say that watching Warrington over the last 25 years (that's how long I've been going) has been easy on the eye, except for the last few of years with a sprinkle of other seasons and the odd games here and there. But I don't go the matches to be entertained, I go to watch a game of Rugby (or football) and support my club, through thick and thin, win, lose or draw (probably why I'd never boo either).
