| Just to clear things up a little. If you pass your test and then get 6 points or more within the first two years of holding a full licence, you don't get a ban. You revert to being a learner driver and have to take your test again.

| All this "speed doesn't kill" and "I should be able to drive as I please on quiet roads" is all a bit silly really. It's a bit like saying bullets don't kill - it's people standing in front of guns that cause death. If you have a licence for a gun and a private, safe place to shoot it, then you wouldn't wander around a country lane firing it just because you feel it's safe, would you?
Laws are there for a reason - sometimes they may seem over the top and sometimes they may seem inconsistent, but they still apply to everyone. Follow the law - no fines, no points, simple. If everyone followed the law there would most likely be less accidents too. If you do enjoy driving fast, fine, do it at a place that provides that service such as a race track.

| having read the points for and against the 20 on long lane..those who are for the 20..how many would like to admit to speeding even if its just the once i.e doing 32 in a 30 or 42 in a 40 and so on..if theres not one who said they`ve never done it..they are angels or just liars

| I would say everybody has committed a speeding offence at some time. However, I know it's wrong and I understand why the speed restrictions are what they are. If the police feel that Long Lane needs extra vigilance, then good, let them do it. If I get caught, then I'll just accept it.

very true but it is very easy just to go that 2 mph over and only realise when its to late..these people are treated like criminals by the law

I was told there's a 10% tolerance, i.e 33 mph in a 30 zone wouldn't get you a ticket. Could well be a load of cobblers, I concede - it was told to me by some random drunkard in the pub a few months back.

it's true, the reason is because speedo's are not 100% accurate and vary very slightly between manufacturers. So they compensate for it.

| Most Police Forces use 10% plus 2 mph. It's a bit like the Breathalyser. The limit is actually 35, but most Forces only charge on 40+.

where did you get that from? the threshold for alcohol roadside is 35, if your near that they will take you to the police station for a follow up test, the roadside test is just an indication that you may need a follow up test and is not admissable in court.
