Nothings ever certain until contracts are signed anyway. Andrew Johns would have returned to Warrington next year had he not retired. Even when contracts are signed things don't always work out - Kevin Campion to name but one example, I could give you more.'"
Makes me wonder why you mentioned it then. Unless it was vanity.

I was merely adding to the discussion, however you've got me bang to rights. OK then - my mate's a director at Whitehaven, John Duffy's coming back and bringing Craig Calvert with him

| Quote: Rob_Wire "These are the 2 players i`ll put forward, ive put 2 hookers forward as well which is a position we need to strengthen in my opinion.
Darren Lockyer
Rob Burrow.
Ian Henderson
Brad Drew
We should have a decent amount of money to spend on a half back next year and in my opinion we should move for Lockyer and use the Johns money to try and entice him, he could consider a move to England as he has achieved everything possible in the NRL and also at Origin level. You don`t get if you don`t ask!
Rob Burrow is a very attack minded player and he has electric pace off the mark and would give us a great double threat in the halves with Lee Briers and Burrow is also a very good defender for his size.
Ian Henderson for me is a quality hooker and the Bulls look a far bigger threat when he is on the pitch than when Newton is on, Brad Drew we know all about who is out and out quality both in attack and defence.'"
What makes you think Lokyer or Burrow would want to play for Wire

Interesting. Thats good news in a way as undoubtably the club knew this too (due to the very special relationship between Warrington and Joey) and so have already got their plans in place for next seasons recruits.

the danger with signing Long is that it is just going to turn into a drinking club with him, Gleeson and Briers all enjoying elevated social status amongst the younger players and leading them astray

| Lets face facts, the NRL guys you have put forward this is what i think of them atm
Thurston- Performing incredibly in the NRL, SOO jumper is basically his for Queensland, Australia 7 jumper is most likely going to be his for a while and he would want to give this up why?
Not an option for you guys unless you are going to offer silly money
Lockyer- Performing well in a bad side atm, SOO jumper is basically his again, Australia 6 jumper again is and always will be until he retires and again he would want to give this up why?
Not an option for you guys, not for a couple more years anyways
Orford- Performing well again in a aside with Jamie Lyon that has become serious NRL title contenders and is having the time of his life with Lyon or Burns playing 6 with himself at 7, No Test or SOO jumpers as of yet for me i think
Monaghan- The only option for you guys i think, good player but he is getting abit more game time now at Manly and may become less of an option in the future

| Warrington need a half back who can control a game, pull out the unexpected when needed & remove pressure from Briers. A "go to" man who the rest of the team can look to when they are knackered/can't be harrissed to put the own hands up for the extra work - another Lee Briers in other words... I believe it is true that we are a one man team - when Briers plays the rest look to him to do something; in games this season he hasn't played in only then have the rest of the team put in the extra effort necessary & put their hands up to take responsibility.
Of the players mentioned, Robinson isn't in the necessary calibre - he is required to lead Salford around & can't. Sinfield or Burrow I would have like a shot, but just can't see them leaving Leeds; likewise Cooke with Hull. Long is past it as a signing for the future unfortunately.
Of English players, I would look at Rooney, Thorman or Deacon - offer them a new challenge & some serious wages.
I do believe we should be looking at a big name to go onto the quota though. A Williams, a Marshall, a Kimmorley or an Orford.
I guess much will depend on the coaching setup though, if we have the same setup I would expect an English or "lesser" NRL player. If we have a different setup then maybe we will see the big name we all hope for...

Thanks for your input. We appreciate somebody who obviously knows whats going on in the NRL sharing their impartial views.
Your knowledge on such matters is World Class, my Saints supporting know-nothing.

Don't talk bollacks, lost to a good NQ Cowboys team in s game we should have won, got beat by the Warriors when missing Lockyer, lost narrowly to the Panthers and beat the Roosters easily, still one of the best teams in the world.
