| Kevin Penney will be a superb player in a couple of years, with good coachign and fan support.
We loved him, his enthusiasm is infectuos and we would have in a black and white shirt forever f we could but he is a wire through and trough.
Give hiim a break, give your support and he will flourish in time

Sadly I agree. If he was an Aussie import Mark M would have lynched him by now.

| I can understand people slating Kevin Penny and it is true that if he was an import there wouldn't be many people defending him.
However, he has been brought back to Warrington to purely make up the numbers and play in half a team while players are rested before Wembley.
I personally think he is only guilty of trying too hard, the knock on from the restart being proof of that.
He has pace, which is the one thing you can't coach. I'd like to see him given a chance next year after a full pre season of coaching under Tony Smith, if it doesn't work then it should be back to Widnes.

Not least because he'd be on Aussie import wages, and probably a few years older.
But he's not. He's a young local lad, learning his trade, with every opportunity to make a name for himself given the right coaching and the time to bed into the team again. He's not highly paid, he isn't a big ego.. he just wants to succeed in the colours of the team he loves.
But for whatever reason (and the elephant in the room has been hinted at in this thread), people seem to resent him and his enthusiasm. It makes me sick, personally.

| It seems that today in sport, people have an opinion that they almost refuse to change. It's almost like it's a mental block for them to contradict their past words, even if it is a positive. If I criticize somebody or something, but my criticism is later proved wrong, I'll hold my hand up and admit I got it wrong and see the positives (if there are any) in my opinion being proved wrong.
Since Kev first came in, people have said 'he's too small', 'he can't tackle' and 'he's way out of his league'. Since then, after an impressive start, he's been shot to pieces by supporters from all corners, so badly that no matter what he does, people will just refuse to acknowledge anything positive he's done. I suppose that's the way sport is nowadays, people with their magnifying glasses only notice the costly errors over the many positives, people seem to expect perfection from some players, but have nowhere near the same standards for others. The Aussie's, Penny and Briers all seem to have these expectations that they do no wrong no matter what, they could have a game where 9/10 things they do is positive and quality, but the one mistake will be highlighted above all.
I've not seen Kev play since he's been back from Widnes, I'm sure he's not been half as bad as people make him out to be, but unfortunately, it seems that people will always refuse to change their opinion on Kev, unless he becomes the best player in the world.

The elephant in the room, as you put it, aint the reason mate. I can say he is not SL level and not resent him. Just like I did with Hulse, Gaskell et al.
If enthusiasm alone was enough we could field the most enthusiastic Wire 13 ever from the patrons of this board. It's about ability, skill, discipline, composure and consistency.
He will get more time because he is local and on a long contract but I am afraid he will end up, like so many other enthusiastic chaps before him, shipped off to Widnes or Leigh, or worse.

TS sent him to Widnes to improve his game as he was miles off SL grade. If you had watched the Wakefield game you would have concurred and realised this improvement has some way to go. Yep the lad is fast, and because of this exciting, but he's so very raw and does not possess skills at the moment to warrant an SL jersey.

| give the guy a break, has the guts to get on the pitch and has speed to burn,
IMHO I would take all responsibility away from KP catching the ball from the start (fear of a knock on) place him where he can run in open play, let him have the freedom of the field, let him run up and down to enjoy the wind in his hair well sort of, I do think he will do well in the final if you don't mess with his head, give him open ground and he will run for ever
beginning to sway your way go wires

Love the sentiment but he has as much chance of playing in the 2009 Final as me.
