So what does Watts get for an intentional headbutt? As oppose to a reckless but uninentional high tackle?

It's come at the wrong time. Not much squad rotation over easter period now with us looking a bit threadbare.

Understood. But I see no reason why Patton cops for something that is deemed intentional but Watts gets off with something there is no denying was intentional.

Made a fist, swinging arm, connects directly with jaw, player knocked out.

Should be a 5 game ban minimum, could easily have broke his jaw. He is hardly going to be a big miss for us.

It was heat of the moment but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t dangerous. Patton isn’t a dirty player but they still have to set an example so other players know they won’t get away with trying it.

Hopefully when he’s back we’ll be in better form and he’ll look good in a better-performing team. In the meantime Livett can cover the backup half role.

I am sure he will be more careful to play the ball on the mark next time, rather than sprinting downfield and copping for a second tackle.

Richie Mathers on Matt King identical...he only got 3 matches... it could be argued Mathers was much higher off the ground than Patton was too.
also King was stretchered off as he was unable to regain his feet.


I think the lesson here is when you have knocked someone out cold:
1. Apologise immediately to all those in the immediate vicinity of the incident.
2. Put your hand up to the ref and apolgise to him.
3. Put a hand on the unconscious player and attempt to wake him up with some soothing words of comfort.
4. Look crestfallen on receiving the red card.
5. Walk off the pitch slowly looking sad.

Patton followed none of the golden rules. He was still arguing with people as he was going off.... Naive Declan ...Naive.....
