| Dead safe, Barcelona. No trouble at all.
Warrington is a right hole, we are used to much worse.

| Agree with stevo - so many stories of people getting mugged over the Weekend.
1 Fella was robbed of 300 Euros and my brother got jumped and robbed of his camera.
Nice City & Great Weekend but they really need to sort out the Crime.

The problem is a large group of (more than likely) drunk people is going to be an easy target for those who want to commit such crimes because after a drink or two you let your guard down a bit more. Even being on holiday tends to mean your more relaxed and let your guard down therefore leaving you slightly more at risk.
I have visted Barecelona once at never saw any trouble, my parents have been 4 times now and have only experienced one (relatively small) incident of pick pocketing. But as has been said over and over it is a big city problem, and especially a big city with a lot of tourists problem.

| Guy I met was lucky on Friday. He had two prostitutes on his arm and he felt one of them dip into his pocket where his phone was. Luckily, she missed and picked up a packet of tomato sauce and then gave up. Eventually he got rid of them but it was a lucky escape.
(Dont ask, I only met the guy out there.)
Heard loads of trouble, and had plenty of Africans on Rambles wanted a piece of me. And my phone, camera, money etc. But all you had to do was walk straight past them and dont make eye contact. I kept all my valuables in buttoned up or zip up pockets and as a result I didnt get anything nicked and had a great time. Even after leaving Cheers ed up at 4am.

| There was a thread here before we went. We knew how rough it was (although the aggressive 'prostitutes' were slightly more aggressive than I thought and clearly had no interest in enticing you, and simply wanted to rob you).
Overall, it wasn;t actually as bad as I expected. We was around the Ramblas all the time, and whilst it was intimidating at times, we kept our wits about us and was ok.
I thought it was a brilliant weekend, and would love to go back, and think the Magic Weekend there was brilliant.
Main disappointment was that the Wire fans seemed to leave the ground straight after the match, when there was a great atmosphere round the beer and food tents, where thousands of Catalans fans stayed until a couple of hours afterwards...

| Quote: gibo "barca is a top place but going down ramblas friday night is danger!! getting felt up and then getting mugged. seen a mugging happen and looks stupid luckily though there was police nearby'"
we didnt see any police on la rambla on saturday night - for one of the most famous streets this place was a lawless ghetto. The port area had security guards stopping the undesirables even getting near. The only arrest we saw was a lucky lucky man selling sunnies in the square next to la rambla. - what a joke.

| Barcelona is a beautiful city. I went with the family and my parents. We had a great time, but the theme of the weekend was the number of attempts at crime we saw/ were victims of.
I had to twice confront men with their hands in my mothers bag, my father had the zip on his rucksack opened 4 times (nothing in there to take), my friend had his wallet taken whilst walking back from pub on Friday night and 60-70% of people we met during the weekend or on the plane, all talked about either having things stolen/ attempted theft or witnessing attempts at crime.
I'm sorry, but the whole 'same as any other city' story is utter bull. I've been to most european cities and have NEVER seen crime on this level. I was genuinely relieved to get on the plane with my wallet on Sunday. As my father-in-law warned before we went, 'its not a case of if, but when it happens in Barcelona'.
Great game, great stadium, enjoyed the weekend, but crime there is a major issue that significantly affected the enjoyment of the weekend, especially with three young kids with us.
Barca or Perpignan? Perpignan every time.....

'" Really? So your group were affected 7 times over the weekend? I don't mean to be rude, but were you not taking any precautions whatsoever?
As for the 60-70% stat, well I will counter that by saying that I only spoke to 1 person who had been affected.

| What I never understand - in any major city - is why people don't take more care. If you have things in a backpack or back pocket then surely you know your risking pickpocketing?
Same if you carry a handbag that doesn't fasten properly, and ideally where you can keep the fastening close to your body (zip at the front etc). I know people let down their guard when away from home but is that really a reason to take unnecessary risk and make things easier for pickpockets?

We also spoke to numerous people who had been victims, both at day and night. This is not like any other street I have ever been to. Would I recommend barca ? - Yes but definitely not la rambla area.
