| How could we afford his $800k salary (£0.5 million). That would be a million over a two years contract. I like Maguire's record but for that money I'd want Russell Crowe and Sam Burgess on the plane with him.

| We currently appear to be the bargaining chip whenever players or in this case managers are negotiating a new contract.

| I am not in any way in the know, but piecing together different strands of information from others on here & twitter I am now of a mind that Maguire will not be coming to Warrington. But I do think that TS has no more than 3 games left as our Coach.

| I think I would agree with that.
The body language from TS and the fact that the players are still giving a variable amount of effort in games suggests he is off and only hanging around at the request of Moran so that they can sort out a replacement. Agar is off to Oz.
So who would be brought in ? Anyone in the UK that has a pedigree will probably be off limits unless big money was found to release them. Up and coming coaches like Henderson are a possibility in that they are more available, but they are of course unproven. Former players like Monas and Briers are a possibility, but a big gamble. First line Oz coaches are expensive, obviously not very keen on the job (failed in Oz, trying England) and look to the reshuffle in the NRL for their next appointment. That would seem to suggest the most likely candidate is an assistant Oz coach who is getting a name for himself and is happy to get 2-3 years experience in the UK under his belt. Failing that we need to get lucky with an unexpected sacking / release / drug scandal / divorce / transgender outing / Russian spy.

| Whomever the board are looking at or indeed chasing for a signature, I hope it is not a protracted event. If Maguire is now free and SM wants him then let get him over the line soonest.

| To appoint Briers or Monaghan would be crazy. Very limited experience. Similar to the CEO appointment. Let them earn their spurs and prove they are worthy of leading one of the top professional RL teams (on paper)
Maguire has not failed in Oz. He has won an NRL and a SL title. I cannot think of many others with that pedigree who have just become available.
In any case it completely kills that inane "yeah but who else could we get if Smith left us" mantra that was trotted out not so many months ago.
Money is not a stumbling block.

Under TS we have been good a winning when we are well in front early doors. What has been lacking in my opinion is the will to win when the chips are down. Michael Maguire and now Shaun Wane at Wigan have instilled that "You shall not pass" attitude that gets you over the line in tight games in the teams that they have coached. I for one would welcome MM to the HJ. Lets get a win at all costs attitude, this is what wins you Grand Finals.

| Wouldn't touch Briers with a barge pole, he is already a part of the coaching set up so he to is responsible for where we are with Agar and Smith.

Whilst that is true, Lee is starting on his coaching career and needs to be mentored. The end point responsibility lies with Smith.

| Ultimate responsibility for the season lies with Tony Smith and he alone. From all accounts he has fallen on his sword and is only seeing us through until the end of the season. The level of responsibility given to the other coaches I am unsure about. I was never keen on Agar from day one, which was solely based on the wherever he was, he always seemed to do a poor job. On that basis and the fact that we have gone backwards at a rate of knots this season allows me to conclude that he has to go too.
Lee Briers has steadily climbed the coaching structure at the club since his retirement and at this point of his coaching career I am willing to say that he should be part of the club for the immediate future, however he must be nurtured by an experienced coach. I would bring Michael Monaghan back as assistant coach along with Briers to whoever we bring in to replace TS. What i do know and have known for a while is that we need a coach that can oversee all aspects of Defence. We miss to many tackles, shoot out of the line (even Peta Hiku did it last week), and generally have been extremely poor.

I enjoy all these Briers for head coach posts . I loved Lee as a player however , he has been coaching the attack from the start of this season and it doesn't look great to me .

| Could be some cost cutting going on next season, until we’re in profit again. Briers as head coach, or TS seeing out his contract. Lots of players contracts up, few replacements coming in. All points towards saving money.
I really hope I’m wrong, but the signs are there.
What about the new structure in 2019 as well. Surely that has an effect, how do you plan for the next 5 years when you only know the make-up of the competition for the next season?

No one seriously believes that a club of Wire's ambition will appoint someone as inexperienced and unproven as Lee Briers as head coach, and there is no chance that Tony Smity will hold that position after the end of this season, either. The fact that no new signings have yet to be announced has more to do with the fact that we can't confirm to any prospective newcomesrs that we will be in SL. I expect quite a lot to change in the weeks after out final match against HKR.

We may well be safe (guaranteed 3rd or above) before that.
