| Toulouse would've been a better match up today. Thought Hull KR would be a team to watch this year but on this showing they've got a long way to go. Result was never in danger. Clark went well on his debut, Penny impressed me apart from flying out of his line once and missing the man completely. Credit to the Toulouse and Hull KR fans who made the journey and made a decent amount of noise. I certainly wouldn't have bothered going all the way to Hull for a friendly, and I'm assuming there was some sort of junior club trip with Toulouse as there was a superb turnout from the frogs.

| Quote: Irishwire "Thought we were brilliant, ref was so shocking. Hull kr didn't trouble us at all. Westwood did Ok just too slow getting off the tackle. Sims, clark, Myler and O'brien were class and hill was his usual self and penny didn't really put a foot wrong'"
Ok, so it's a preseason game and we can't read too much into it but our halfbacks today were outstanding including a great kicking game from both of them. The pack were all good and a great credit to Anthony England who backed up from 60 minutes or so v Toulouse to play another 20 in the second game. Also, I suspect Kev Penny may have nailed a starting spot v Salford. excellent in attack and defence and made great yards with almost every drive as well as two scorching tries.

| The season hasn't even kicked off yet and I'm already bored of the ref bashing. Offside!

| Wasn't bothered with the offsides today just a very weak ref who would give pens because the opposition asked for one

Agree with these posts.
Think only Penny in our current squad could have scored those tries.
But from memory think he ran out of the line ( & missed any attacker ) more than once.
Definafely ahead of Ormsby in the ranking, who got run over by his opponent, acceptable if we were playing AUS / NZ - but Tolouse come on !.
Ormsby never beat a man in the 60 mins I saw.
Big Roy - hits hard but is just too old / slow ?
Felt for Russell. Accidental knock to face & obviously in discomfort again ~ 4 months on !
All caused by Widnes cheap stot T***er who could of pulled out.

| I watched the second half of the Toulouse game and Ormsby was poor for me, shot out of the line a few times and just got bulldozed by Minga who was a beast tbf.
I was disappointed with KR as I expected a much tougher game, Campese was anonymous, the forwards left a lot to be desired and the hooker was useless. I dont think Sio touched the ball as far as I could make out and Dixon was probably their best player and all he did was defend.

Still wasn't a penalty though...
The one thing I would say about Penny is, although I'd like to see him in against Salford and Hull it probably isn't a very good idea to put him in v St. George. He has improved but there are still defensive frailties and we'd be better off bringing Bridgey back in for then if he's fit.

| Kevin Penny has never had a good word from some on here, they'd much rather have Ormsby who, to date has yet to beat a man in his Superleague career.

| BBHO I'd have Penny in at a heartbeat. All he needs is a guy inside him who can put in a sweet pass. Unfortunately that isn't Atkins.
Penny outside Wheeler would be awesome imo.

| So impressed by the character of penny not many would have took the knocks he has and patiently waited for his second chance.
Yes there will always be fans who are defence experts and analyse his every movement while they will gladly ignore joels similar defensive frailties. With penny and joel we have too opposite styles of winger, but both score tries. I'm really looking forward to watching penny this season.

How about Matt King as his centre?

| Don't know about Matt but I would draft Toby in and move Atkins out.
His time as a 3/4 is coming to an end if not sooner than later.
Move him into back row like Westwood, Cullen and Roberts did when their pace and passing became slightly suspect.
A move into the forwards could prolong his career by another 5 years too.
No team wants a slowing centre unless they have other attributes to offset it, like sidesteps, vision and quality passing. Unfortunately none of these are a forte of Ryan.
I await the backlash.

| I like the idea of backs moving into the forwards. We are currently short of depth in the second row. It's not much of a move from say left centre to left second row.

Atkins certainly has the vision to spot the chance to knock seven bells out of someone!
Did it again v KR and it saved us more than once last year! He stays in for me.

| I quite liked what we did bringing Higham on at Loose(?) so we had Higham, Clark, GOB, Myler & Ratch all on the pitch. Throw in Bridge and that's a lot of skill & versatility in the side.
I'm impressed with Myler too, him and GOB have formed quite the pairing.
GOB especially played well, his vision was great and kicking was spot on for the most part.
