| So the England v Exiles is a game in which we find out our best 13 for the 4 nations?

| Quote: Philth "No brainer from Chase. He will get the chance to play against the best in the world for England RL, little chance of him appearing in the All Blacks shirt any time soon.
Don't understand all this hate though, the guy has emigratted in order to fulfill his dream of playing full time rugby league. It just so happens that he has done particularly well in this country, and has even chosen to stay for at least 4 more years, he would have been here 7 years by the time his contract is up.
Essentially, this is a guy who was born elsewhere, but has made his living in England.
He's the complete opposite to Reed and Widdop who happend to be born here but have offered nothing to super league due to them forging a career in the NRL. No uproar when they chose England.
I have more of a problem with some guy in the NRL who's Granadad had a Guiness once choosing Ireland, than someone who's career has been mainly based over here representing our country, Chase has only added to Super League in my opinion.
Good luck to him'"
Representing England should be nothing to do with where you make your living or what you have offered to Super League. The whole point of international competition is about people from one country taking on people from another. Chase isn't English and has played for New Zealand Maori and trained with the New Zealand squad. If he isn't good enough to play for New Zealand, then it's tough luck on his part.

| I don't see a problem with this. The Aussies have been doing it for years with South Sea Islanders, no-one has complained about that. The England Cricket team has more South Africans in it than Englishmen, and England RU are currently playing Kiwis, South Africans, and a Samoan whose brother is currently playing for Samoa. If he qualifies, play him.

There's more than four. He qualifies so it can't be wrong. Play him if he's fully committed.

It's in the rules for MP's to make ridiculous claims on their expenses. It doesn't however make it right.
I'd rather see an English player picked and if they weren't as good as Chase, so be it.

| The analogy with the cricket is a poor one.
The ones currently playing for England DO have English credentials, e.g. born in England or have an English parent.
The Rangi Chase issue is so wide of the mark, it's untrue. As far as I'm aware, he has no English parents, wasn't born here, so what's he done to warrant being English....enjoyed Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding, washed down with a pint of real ale, in a traditional English pub on a Sunday afternoon....as far as I'm concerned, they're his qualifying credentials...unbelievable.
It's just as bad as the farce with Fa'asavlu (sp) a few years back.
Have we no scruples in our game anymore?
Last one out, turn the lights off.
Oh, andnow we have another player that limbos under the player quota for next season, so guess what, Cas go out and get ANOTHER foreigner, to the detriment of their youth set-up. Potentially another youngster lost to our game, just because Cas CAN get another player. No wonder fans of other sports laugh at our game....we give them enough bait

This is what his opinion was a couple of months ago
It's easy to mock, but it's modern sport. I just get the feeling he got the 'no' from New Zealand after pushing for a spot in their squad and that he's doing it out of spite against NZ rather than actually wanting to play for England.

| what about jack reed, he left the country when he was 2 but can play for england and probably never even touched a rugby ball in this country. Rangi chase has qualified to play for england because of residency. why are people complaining that we have got a star player in the england side. the english are never happy, we all complain that we are rubbish when we lose but when we have a chance of winning we still complain because someone doesnt have an english accent

Haalf of the cas squad is made up of youngsters, the majority of cas fans are crying out for more experienced players to be in the squad. and we only have 3 quota players.
how does RL give bait for fans of other sports, how many foreigners play for english clubs in football?

| I think it's great that guys from a small colonial island the other side of the world through their hard work can earn on merit the chance to play for the motherland and sing the national anthem of Her Majesty their Queen.
Over in New Zealand rugby is part of the fabric of their society, there isn't a boy in NZ that doesn't one day dream of pulling on that hallowed white jersey like Henry Paul, Vainikolo and now Shontayne Hape have done, so why shouldn't Rangi be allowed to fulfil that dream.
After all we embraced the Irishman Chris Bridge into the England team.

Can't agree at all? Who was the last England coach? Under the current rules, if he qualifies then I'm happy. We are doing no different to what Australia and NZ have done for years. Best example is Brad Thorne, NZ born, plays RL for Aus, RU for All Blacks, back to RL (did he play for Aus again in that period?), then a second spell with the All Blacks. Lote Tuquiri played RL in a World Cup for Fiji, then RL and RU for Aus. There are numerous Fijians and Samoans who have played for both Aus and NZ. What's the difference?
As for Cas depriving another local lad of a place in the squad, I'll bet no other club has a better record than Castleford over the past 10 years at promoting local lads. If it was HKR (currently 10 overseas players), then I'd agree with you.

| Teesside, just because others (nations, clubs) do it, doesn't make it right.
SLTiger1...there are umpteen foreign players playing in the Premiership (football) because there is no restriction on foreign players....there is in RL, allthough it's policed pathetically, due to so many opt-out clauses..
The fact that Chase plays for Cas is irrelevant, it could be any club that this issue affects, that's why I raised the issue, not a sympathy vote for Cas. I'm objecting to the principle.
