Yes but then there is 2012, one year doesnt make a career, especially for someone 22 years of age
What had Briers done at 22 years old?

23997_1287161421.jpg
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg |

Maybe its because Briers hasn't been playing behind a dominant pack, that seems to be the excuse for Tomkins failure against the best players in the world at International level.

I guess he has 2 CC medals, which is more than most have. He has still massively underachieved though
The original comment is absolutely ridiculous though the more i think about it

Briers is near enough done Sam is starting and he's probably won more now than briers has ever

| This is stupid. Sam tomkins is very one dimensional. In fact that is an understatement.
We will once again see how good (read: poor) sam is on his own merits when we play a real team come 4 nations!
This argumebt of who has won what is stupid. Tou lot hate mathers and he has won a load more than most od the wigan players.

Ok, so achieving more than Briers means his one of the best players in RL (which lots of Wigan fans claim), thanks for clearing that up.
Sam is one of the best players in SL, definately top 30, but he is a poors mans Jarryd Hayne.

It is almost (and I do know it is loose) like saying micky higham is the best hooker; no, the best player in rugby because he used to be able to get a good scoot from dummy half.
To a strongish defence, sam is a wet dream. Selfish, clumsy, light and limited rugby brain.
This will be highlighted well ( like last year) in the 4 nations. I, from a rugby pov, hope he does become a great fullback but apart from his ability to slide through awful defensive mistakes he is poor.

| Some of the comments on here are embarassing...
I'm pretty sure not many Warrington fans share the same view of Ron or jdrocket because it just goes to show what lack of RL knowledge they have. I dont understand how they can't see what a special type of player England have in Sam Tomkins. For years we have been able to match Australia and New Zealand in the forwards but have lacked quality in the backs. A player like Sam comes along and it's "if we dont beat Australia and New Zealand he's rubbish." I have no doubt behind a good pack going into the 4 Nations we will see just what a good player he is.
We havent been able to match Australia and New Zealand for years so why if we don't this year would it be all Sam's fault. I'm more worried about McNamara being in charge than anything else.
Sam Tomkins is quality and irrespective of who he plays for, it's great to watch him in Super League!

I remember the days when Sky covered all teams and not just one team and one so called god like player
Maybe if Sky covered the whole of the game then we could talk about all of the teams and players

| 'Sam' wa sensational last night.
I was really surprised watching the game, all the Wigan fans on here keep telling me we're daft as a brush for racking up big scores on plop sides, the Wigan wayaka the 'correct way' is to just do enough, conserve the energy, then a week before the final they're running tries from everywhere.
How odd.

That would have been the plan but at half time he would have said dont risk it go out and do your stuff

I hope that's not a genuine case for an argument!
Wigan are a class team with an exceptional young player, they are going to get air time.
Barcelona and Messi, United and Ronaldo, they all attract viewers in their time.
Just don't know if this is a board for true Wire fans, or a board for Wigan haters. I'm a Wire through and through but I appluad great rugby and great rugby players and at the moment their is a lot of that over at Wigan.

Sorry, but I am afraid it is you and the masses that lack the knowledge, you listen to what sky say to much. Sam is a special player really? Surely a special player would perform against the best players in the world, looking good in broken play in SL doesn' t mean much... its the eqivalent of a player looking great in the SPL or the Championship and claiming they're one of the best football players in the world, doesn't make much sense does it if they aren't performing against the best.
When he rips up the NRL, or International defences then I will concede he is special, otherwise his just a very good SL player... you could bring over at least 20 of the backs on the NRL and they would rip open SL defences for fun.
